Michele's Migraine Myth: Just a Distraction

On Tuesday Michele Bachmann confirmed rumors of having endured migraine headaches on occasion.

She said, "I have prescribed medication I take on occasion whenever symptoms arise and they keep my migraines under control. But I'd like to make it abundantly clear, my ability to function effectively will not affect my ability to serve as Commander in Chief."

Despite Bachmann’s reassurance, many critics (meaning the whole of the mainstream media) are postulating that a minor ailment, like a headache, (which affects millions of Americans) would impede her ability to perform as President.

This conclusion is interesting in light of a 2001 report done by the National Institute of Health, sighting that over 30 million Americans suffer from migraines.

So are we supposed to believe that 30 million Americans are unable to manage jobs because of their migraines?

No, because that is just absurd.

But let me also remind the liberal critics of their beloved FDR who also suffered from health issues, which were far more serious then some migraines. In fact, the 32nd President of the US was in a wheel chair and practically paralyzed. And yet Roosevelt accomplished a great deal as President, whose achievements are in fact applauded by both parties at times.

These examples demonstrate why it is absurd to allege that because of a minor health concern, Bachmann would not be equipped to perform as Commander and Chief.

The real story is that this is just an attempt to make Bachmann appear weak and delicate. It is a distraction by sexist opponents, that hope to emphasize the fact that Bachmann is a woman, and thus incapable of leading or holding power. It’s a distraction from the real issues, that do matter.

But their distraction isn’t working, because Bachmann is #1 in the polls… And oh yeah, because it’s the 21st century.
