Former "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett has been indicted in Chicago by special prosecutor Dan Webb on Tuesday for allegedly staging the hate crime attack in 2019, where he accused two men in "Make America Great Again" hats of assaulting him and putting a noose around his neck.

During the alleged attack in the early morning hours, Smollett said he was jumped by the men after getting a sandwich from Subway. He claimed they shouted, "This is MAGA country!"

The Chicago Sun-Times reports attorneys for Smollett were told that they should expect their client to be indicted and that investigators have even gone to California to interview people connected to Smollett. He is facing six charges for filing a false police report and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on February 24.

As Chicago police investigated his claim, they found discrepancies and interviewed two brothers who claimed Smollett paid them to help stage the attack. Smollett was then charged with filing a false report, but State's Attorney for Cook County Kim Foxx's office, after she recused herself from the case, dropped all charges against him.
