Singer Linda Ronstadt: Trump Is 'Like Hitler and the Mexicans Are the New Jews'

Retired singer Linda Ronstadt said the Hispanics within the United States are in danger because she claims there are parallels between Trump's America and Nazi Germany.

Ronstadt told CNN's Anderson Cooper she has family members who are Republicans and President Trump has put a "strain" on their relationship with their liberal family members.

"Now I have to be careful, because we’ve had so much taken away from us by this administration that I’m not willing to let them take my family relationships away," Ronstadt said. "The parts that were Republican were fairly rational Republicans. We don’t have that in that current White House.”

Cooper then asked what she thought about the United States since she has read extensively the rise and fall of the Weimar Republic, which was taken over by Adolf Hitler.

"Great parallels between the inteligencia in Berlin and the literati and all the artists were just busy doing their thing, and as Hitler rose to power they had a lot of chance to stop him and they didn’t speak out and the industrial complex thought they could control him once they got him in office and of course he was not controllable," she said. "By the time he got established, he put his own people in place and stacked the courts and did what he had to do to consolidate his power and we got Hitler and he destroyed Germany, he destroyed sentries of intellectual history forward and backward, you know, people like Beethoven and Thomas Marlin became jokes, they became Nazi laughing stocks."

"If you read the history, you won’t be surprised. It is exactly the same," she continued. "Find a common enemy for everybody to hate. I was sure that Trump was going to get elected the day he announced and I said he’s going to — it is going to be like Hitler and the Mexicans are the new Jews. And sure enough, that is what he delivered, you know."
