The Texas run-off election results will be coming in tomorrow night and it has the potential to cause a major shake-up in the state as many key races will finally be decided.
So what should we come to expect from the most important races to be decided tomorrow night and which are the ones to pay special attention to? I’ll give you a brief overview of what you should be watching.
It goes without saying that tomorrow night will be the most consequential GOP Senate primary of the cycle. Attorney General Ken Paxton, the close ally of President Trump and perhaps the most impactful conservative politician in recent Texas history, is poised to take down incumbent John Cornyn in the run-off. The race was likely to break Paxton’s way already, but securing Trump’s last-minute endorsement just as early voting began should be enough to make this a done deal.
In another extremely important race, Rep. Chip Roy and State Sen. Mayes Middleton will decide who will replace Paxton in one of the highest-profile AG’s offices in the country. Middleton has received support from Paxton and his former primary election opponent Aaron Reitz. Betting markets give him a commanding chance to take the win, and it is likely that Roy will be seen out of office.
Notorious Democrat Al Green is likely on the ropes in his race as he faces off against Rep. Christian Menefee in Texas’ 18th District. Menefee won a special election to fill the seat back in January, and is likely to retain control after tomorrow night. Green’s performative stunts might finally come to an end.
In another interesting Democrat race, Texas’ 35th District has a showdown between Maureen Galindo and Johnny Garcia. Galindo recently made headlines for her “groundbreaking” idea of defunding ICE and using their detention facilities as camps to intern and castrate American Zionists and former ICE officers.
The Republican side of the race will have some fireworks as well. Trump-endorsed Carlos De La Cruz will compete against the controversy-laden State Rep. John Lujan. Lujan has boasted some major endorsements from his former primary opponents and Gov. Greg Abbott, but De La Cruz has the backing of countless national Republicans and MAGA darling Rep. Brandon Gill. This race is certainly one to watch as it is tenuous if Republicans will manage to take control of it after the midterm elections.
Looking down the ballot, you’ll find an interesting race featuring the prominent social media face of Bo French battling Jim Wright for Railroad Commissioner, which despite its name has nothing to do with Texas’ railroads. French is the former GOP Chair of Tarrant County and has made a name for himself for his staunch resistance to the Islamification of Texas. He’s got a number of prominent endorsements, namely from Turning Point Action. Wright is able to boast of his endorsements from many of the state-wide office holders, including Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
