Virginia has just passed one of the most ridiculous congressional maps that we have ever laid eyes on. They did it while gaslighting their voters and the American people that this was a vote on the issue of fairness. That by voting yes on their referendum to disenfranchise half of the state, they have taken a stand to protect democracy. Of course, they had to trot out the most divisive politician in modern American history to promote the idea.

Barack Obama isn’t the only one. Governor Abigail Spanberger, who has led her state in passing some of the most sweeping progressive reforms in the country and put Virginia on the road to become the east coast’s California, pushed straight doublespeak in her social media post by claiming that this was actually a power grab by Donald Trump.

They couldn’t help themselves on the actual wording of the proposed amendment either, posing this question to voters: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring fairness Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”

There is still a path forward for Republicans to retain power if they have the courage to do what is necessary. Florida has the opportunity to redistrict and strip Democrats of five seats within their state. Failure to do so is a failure to President Trump and the American people.

Democrats have proven that they will lie and obfuscate to regain power. Will Republicans step up to the plate and put up a fight?
