Reince Priebus Gives First Post-Resignation Interview to Wolf Blitzer

In his first post-resignation interview, Reince Priebus told Wolf Blitzer that he still fully supports President Trump, but that "he wanted to go in a different direction."

Priebus said he and Trump had discussed his resignation for days and that he was not asked to resign. He declined to get into specific reasons for his exit, though.

"I'm not going to get into that personal stuff."

"General Kelly is a brilliant pick. ... We'll be working on a transition," he said. "It's not like it's a situation where there's a lot of ill feelings. I think this is good for the President."

Priebus also issued an official statement:

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve this President and our country.  I want to thank the President for giving me this very special opportunity.  I will continue to serve as a strong supporter of the President's agenda and policies.  I can't think of a better person than General John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success.
