President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s new leader has asked for a ceasefire as the U.S.-Israeli bombardment continues.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Iran's New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when the Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!"

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson immediately responded, calling Trump’s statement false and baseless, Reuters reported. This has been a pattern over recent weeks, with Trump indicating the Iranian regime wants to negotiate an end to the war and the regime denying it.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday suggested that he can see “the finish line” in the war. “It’s not today, it’s not tomorrow, but it is coming,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

He further suggested that it is possible Washington and Tehran could have a “direct meeting at some point” and that “There are messages being exchanged, there are talks going on.”

U.S. and Iranian officials held indirect talks in Geneva, where Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi said they exchanged “creative and positive” ideas. However, the talks ended without a deal.

Rubio also suggested that the U.S. would have to reassess its relationship with NATO after the Iran war is concluded.

"Ultimately, that's a decision for the president to make, and he'll have to make it," Rubio said.

"But I do think, unfortunately, we are going to have to reexamine whether or not this alliance that has served this country well for a while is still serving that purpose, or has it now become a one-way street where America is simply in a position to defend Europe, but when we need the help of our allies, they're going to deny us basing rights, and they're going to deny us overflight," he added in reference to use of military bases.

President Donald Trump, in an interview with The Telegraph published on Wednesday, said he is close to pulling the U.S. out of NATO after European allies refused his call for help with breaking the Iranian blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
