There's a Reason Why Progressives Fear Black People With Guns

It is no secret that progressives have been virulently anti-gun for decades. They have fought feverishly against gun rights in America.

If these people had their druthers, nobody would be armed except the select few they need to help them enforce their agenda. But they really don’t want Black people to own firearms.

As Black Guns Matter founder Maj Toure always says, “All gun control is racist.”

The gun control movement in America was racist from its very inception. The nation’s first anti-gun laws were specifically aimed at Black people in an effort to prevent them from arming themselves. Even today, gun control laws disproportionately impact Black Americans, making it harder for them to exercise their right to keep and bear arms.

Everytown for Gun Safety, one of the nation’s leading anti-gunner organizations, recently championed a bill proposed by California state lawmakers that would make it more difficult for residents to defend themselves against violent criminals. But their reasoning for supporting the law is one of many examples showing how the hard left uses Black people as political pawns.

Monisha Henley, senior vice president for government affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety,” said this law is necessary because “White supremacists and other extremists have hidden behind self-defense laws to fire a gun and turn any conflict into a death sentence. Now, lawmakers have an opportunity to help stop that and save lives. We thank Assemblymember Zbur for his commitment to gun safety and listening to advocates and experts on ways to keep Californians safe from gun violence.”

Roan Thibault, a volunteer leader with Students Demand Action, echoed these sentiments, saying that political leaders “have chosen to embrace, rather than condemn bigotry.” This has supposedly “emboldened extremists to take violent actions against vulnerable communities” and that he is “proud of Assemblymember Zbur’s steps to combat white supremacy.”

The Guardian published an article in 2015 attempting to link the gun rights movement to white supremacy.

Why does the United States refuse to pass new gun control laws? It’s the question that people around the world keep asking.

According to Dr Jonathan Metzl, a psychiatrist and sociologist at Vanderbilt University, white supremacy is the key to understanding America’s gun debate. In his new book, Dying of Whiteness: How the Politics of Racial Resentment is Killing America’s Heartland, Metzl argues that the intensity and polarization of the US gun debate makes much more sense when understood in the context of whiteness and white privilege.

White Americans’ attempt to defend their status in the racial hierarchy by opposing issues like gun control, healthcare expansion or public school funding ends up injuring themselves, as well as hurting people of color, Metzl argues.

These are only a few examples demonstrating how progressives exploit Black Americans to push their anti-gunner agenda, claiming that opposition to gun control is rooted in racism.

Despite the anti-gunner’s efforts, however, Black gun ownership has been on the rise over the past five years. But this still has not prevented anti-gunners from exploiting Black people to push their anti-gun agenda.

Data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation showed that gun purchases by Black Americans increased by 58 percent in 20200. Black women, in particular, have become a fast-growing segment of first-time gun owners.

Gun control laws have a particularly deleterious effect on Black Americans. In places like New York City, stop-and-frisk policies, combined with the state’s onerous gun control laws, disproportionately resulted in the violation of Black residents’ Second Amendment rights

Moreover, Black people living in high-crime areas are often prevented from possessing firearms, making them more vulnerable to violent crime.

Yet, progressives continue supporting laws that inhibit Black Americans’ right to keep and bear arms – even while claiming that white supremacy is a danger to them. If white supremacy is as rampant as leftists claim, why wouldn’t they want Black people to be armed?

Either they don’t truly believe white supremacy is as prevalent as they claim, or they simply don’t care.

But I think there is a more nefarious motivation here. If more law-abiding Black people own firearms, it becomes harder to victimize them. They would be less likely to be harmed by a criminal using a firearm they obtained illegally. Moreover, overall violence in certain areas would decrease as more Black folks are able to defend themselves.

If this happened, it would present an obstacle for progressives using Black deaths to promote gun control. Furthermore, it would keep many Black Americans living in substandard conditions caused by high crime rates, lack of quality education, and an overabundance of government. Keeping Black people in these conditions gives Democrats a talking point to use when they want to win more votes.

It is also worth noting that gun ownership highlights a mentality that is troublesome to the left: The notion that people are responsible for their own safety and cannot count on daddy government to help them when they are in a dangerous situation.

This is why California progressives want to pass a law limiting the circumstances in which people can use deadly force to defend their lives and property. They do not want Black people to see that the government is not their friend. Carrying a firearm is an implicit statement that we refuse to depend on the state for our personal protection.

When more Black people become gun owners, it’s a sign that they are trusting the government even less than they did previously. To put it simply, Black gun ownership is a threat to the hard left establishment, which is why they want desperately to curtail it.
