Another Congressional Staffer Assaulted in DC

In just the last few months, we've covered an endless string of crimes in our nation's extremely dangerous capital city, some of which have directly impacted members of Congress and their staffs.  There was the horrible incident in which one of Sen. Rand Paul's aides was brutally stabbed in broad daylight in Washington, DC.  There was the Democratic Congresswoman who was assaulted in an elevator in her own apartment building.  There was the Democratic Congressman who was carjacked at gunpoint.  And now there's this, involving an aide to Alabama freshman Senator Katie Britt:

The criminal pointed a gun at her head, then stole her car and all of her belongings.  It's an outrageous crime, of course, but it's also disturbingly normal in DC these days.  Carjackings are so common that the Senate, following the lead of the Washington Post, has issued official guidance on how to mitigate the serious threat.  Safety bulletin:

Earlier this month, there were five DC carjackings in a single night, which isn't even a shocking development.  That form of violent crime has absolutely skyrocketed since 2020, hitting an astonishing milestone over the weekend.  There are still more than two full months left in the year:

Eight hundred carjackings, and counting.  As a reminder, the DC city council passed "criminal justice reform," in the name of "equity" and "progress," that reduced criminal penalties for a host of serious crimes, including carjacking.  The vast majority of Congressional Democrats voted to uphold this insanity before President Biden flipped on the issue and announced he's sign a GOP bill to override DC home rule on the measure.  The council -- whose leader asserted earlier this year that there is no crime crisis in the district -- clearly needed adult supervision, but most House Democrats fought it.  Criminals feel historically emboldened and act with impunity in this exclusively Democrat-run city, striking brazenly, even in 'nice' areas:

And on and on it goes:

I'll leave you with two crime crisis stories from the opposite side of the country, also from cities dominated by left-wing Democrats.  I thought the San Francisco example surely had to be an exaggeration of some sort. Then I watched the clip.  The summary provided, incredibly, is accurate.  Speechless:

Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant said the city should not add police resources to the Central District neighborhood after a day-time shooting sent bullets into a day care this week. The owner of the day care called out Sawant after the drive-by shooting on Oct. 16, which involved 24 children crawling to the bathroom for safety.  “Show your face because your presence is needed to support us. Who is [Sawant]? I’ve reached out to [her office] for two years. Nothing, they never support anything that people of color do in this community,” said Appollonia Washington, the co-owner of A 4 Apple Learning. Washington and other Central District advocates have asked for additional police resources to be brought to the area in response to the shooting and long-standing safety concerns. "We need police presence,” Washington said.

Sawant -- seen in the video wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh, days after Hamas' massacre of Jews -- isn't merely opposed to increasing the police presence in her district, you see.  She is "a vocal proponent of defunding the police," and told concerned residents that their support for more police is a failed idea, adding that it's "unfortunate" that the police have not been entirely defunded.  Seattle PD has experienced a massive exodus in recent years, under the 'leadership' of dangerous radicals like Sawant.
