China Slams Trump for ‘Twitter Diplomacy’

China decided to hit back after President-elect Donald Trump slammed the country on Monday via Twitter. In an article published by China’s official - and most influential - news agency, Xinhua, Trump is criticized for inappropriately using Twitter to comment on foreign affairs.

The byline calls Trump’s “obsession with 'Twitter diplomacy’…undesirable.”

"It is a commonly accepted that diplomacy is not a child's game - and even less is it business dealing. As former United States Secretary of State [Madeleine] Albright said, Twitter should not be a tool for foreign policy," the article reads.

The dig comes after the president-elect scolded China for not doing enough about North Korea and its nuclear proliferation in a tweet on Monday.

China has been taking out massive amounts of money & wealth from the U.S. in totally one-sided trade, but won't help with North Korea. Nice!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 2, 2017

The Chinese government never issued an official response to the tweet.
