Former Deputy Director of the FBI Dan Bongino blasted the Daily Mail after they released a piece yesterday titled: "Bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk did NOT match rifle allegedly used by suspect Tyler Robinson, new court filing claims."

He argued that not only was the headline debunked within the first sentence, but the Daily Mail also misrepresented Robinson’s defense attorneys’ arguments, doing nothing more than playing into the hands of grifters who have spent months profiting off pure speculation surrounding Charlie Kirk’s assassination and other political events.

"Here's the Daily Mail headline from last night, I mean, again, one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a long time," Bongino said. "There is a trial going on. Bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk, quote, did not, not in all caps, appealing again to the lowest common denominator, did not match rifle allegedly used by suspect Tyler Robinson. New court filing claims."
"Its an absolute abomination," he said. "Number one, the headline of the piece, which is clearly rage bait and clickbait, is completely inaccurate and is debunked by Melissa Koenig, this absolute imbecile, her own piece."
"The title says did not right? But then the first line says it may not," the former FBI deputy director said. "I mean, fellas, ladies in the audience, you're reading the same thing because I'm sure the Candace fans are in here now. It doesn't matter. But it gets even worse, of course, in the piece."
So now they change the headline for the moron class. But his defense attorneys talking about Mr. Robinson, who's, by the way, entitled to a vigorous defense...His defense attorneys now argue that the ATF was, quote, unable to identify the bullet recovered at the autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson. So now it gets even worse. Now they're not only saying may not. Now they're saying it couldn't match at all because the bullet basically was fragmented.

The ATF ran a tool mark analysis on a bullet jacket fragment recovered from Charlie's autopsy.

In other words, the defense attorneys argue that the bullet is too damaged to definitively link to Robinson’s rifle. However, they’re not claiming it didn’t come from that gun, they’re saying the evidence isn’t strong enough to be 100 percent certain. Yet the Daily Mail treats the filing as if the bullet outright doesn’t match, an exaggerated take that will inevitably play well with grifters who continue cashing in on conspiracy theories about Kirk’s death.

"This Melissa Koenig may not be intelligent, I don't know her, but she can't be that dumb," Bongino continued. "She got your clicks. That's all that matters, man. Young man, murdered on camera, he's got kids and a wife, ah, whatever, he got your clicks. I hope you're happy, Daily Mail."
The Daily Mail has faced serious criticism for its irresponsible headline, choosing to play directly into the hands of those looking to muddy a relatively straightforward case rather than seek truth and clarity. While the new era of media has expanded free speech, and helped to bring more conservatives into the fray, it has done little to advance accuracy, as many outlets and popular shows exploit a landscape ripe for smoke and mirrors to serve their own agendas.
