Tucker Carlson has appeared to confuse "America First" with "Iran First" after arguing in his latest newsletter that it could be "a good thing" if Iran were able to create nuclear weapons, claiming that it might actually stabilize the region, as it did the Korean Peninsula.
What are the chances Iran would actually launch a nuclear attack? History suggests they're zero, no matter what Senator Graham says. No country in the so-called "Axis of Evil" has ever deployed a nuke, because doing so would be an act of suicide. In fact, the United States is the only nation to unleash its nuclear might as an act of war. It's strange how Washington considers that a point of pride.
Could the Iranians obtaining The Bomb wind up being a good thing? Whether anyone in the foreign policy establishment admits it, North Korea's nuclearization has undeniably stabilized the Korean Peninsula. The region has seen no wars, coups, or interventionist-forced regime changes since 2006.
Tucker’s newsletter today argues that it would actually be a good thing if The Islamic Republic, the same ones who just massacred thousands of their own citizens for simply protesting, obtained a nuke.

What Carlson overlooks is that the Iranian regime is far more aggressive than North Korea in destabilizing and attacking other countries. Like a handful of conservative commentators, he’s fallen for the notion that any U.S. military action inevitably leads to a “forever war,” what Ben Shapiro termed “Iraq Syndrome.” Carlson, however, takes it even further, repeatedly warning that any U.S. move against Iran, Russia, or others will automatically trigger World War III.

And yet, despite President Trump’s string of foreign policy victories, including dropping bunker-buster bombs on an Iranian nuclear site and a high-stakes operation in Venezuela, Carlson clings to his narrative. He goes so far as to lend aid to the Iranian and Russian regimes, most glaringly by serving as a propagandist for Iran, even appearing on Iranian state television during the country’s internet blackout.
Some have accused Carlson of playing for America's enemies, despite claiming repeatedly that he cares only for America.
Total adherence to “Iraq Syndrome” is poor foreign policy. It assumes the United States can never be of help, a point a Democrat is likely to make, and confines us to the sidelines in global affairs. This is not America and never will be. President Trump's foreign policy is the best example of how the United States should approach global affairs. How conservatives navigate a post-Trump world remains uncertain.
As for why Carlson's view matters at all, he is not simply rambling his viewpoints in his weekly newsletter or on his show. Over the past week, he has met multiple times at the White House with cabinet officials and President Trump himself. While the purpose of these meetings is unclear, it raises a serious question: why does someone so openly at odds with the administration’s goals remain in their good graces?
