Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are reportedly considering a return to the United States after relocating to the UK in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election. Following Donald Trump’s victory, the couple permanently extended what was meant to be a temporary stay at their home in the Cotswolds.

It is my sad duty to report that Ellen DeGeneres is returning to the United States. pic.twitter.com/2doVYDawMn
President Trump's victory was not enough to keep them away for long, even though the couple initially signaled that they wouldn't return under any circumstances.
Ellen and her wife are currently in America for the holidays, to escape the weather in the UK; however, their visit is likely to become more permanent. The couple has discussed moving back to the U.S. because they miss their friends, and so Portia can continue her acting career in Hollywood.
"Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the UK while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she's changed her mind somewhat," a source told The Daily Mail. "She's been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can't take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again. They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it."
Ellen has repeatedly criticized President Trump, both as a sign of a "scary" political environment in the U.S., as well as a threat to LGBTQ+ rights, whatever that means. Both she and her wife believe the social and political environment in the UK, is "just better" despite threats to free speech, and a declining justice system that refuses to address problems stemming from unvetted migrants coming from Africa and the Middle East.

But, apparently, the 'serious' threat President Trump poses is not outweighed by missing some friends, and the opportunity the couple could gain from re-entering Hollywood.
Democratic hypocrisy at its finest.
