Mark Meadows: We Have Practice Booting Out House Speakers

Washington, D.C. - More than 100 FreedomWorks activists from across the country came to Capitol Hill on Wednesday with signs that read, "End the Witch Hunt" and "Stop the Circus." They were, of course, referring to the Democratic-led impeachment against President Trump.

“The conservative grassroots, the lifeblood of the work we do here at FreedomWorks, will undoubtedly play kingmaker in 2020 and beyond," FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon explained. "Our activists were behind President Trump in 2016, and they are here today to let their voices be heard on impeachment. They are everyday Americans committed to small government, economic freedom, and the American rule of law.”

FreedomWorks activists arrived from all over the country to demand Speaker Pelosi stop the "charade."

The activists demanded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi release the two articles of impeachment against President Trump and that the Senate acquit him.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), one of the featured speakers at Wednesday morning's press conference on the hill, couldn't agree more.

"This is all about Nancy Pelosi and the charade she started in the basement of that building," Meadows said, pointing behind him toward the House of Representatives.

The congressman, who was there "every day" of testimony to hear from witnesses in the early stages of the impeachment inquiry in the fall, recalled how one-by-one the witnesses denied Pelosi and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff what he wanted to hear - that the president did or said something wrong during his phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

"Adam Schiff didn't get the answers he wanted," Meadows concluded. "Nancy Pelosi didn't get the answers she wanted."

And so the Democrats are delaying and delaying, "instead of allowing Mitch McConnell to do his job in the Senate and acquit this president so we can get on to creating jobs and doing what this president does best."

Meadows encouraged the activists to continue to put pressure on Pelosi because it's one action they can actually take.

"We can't impeach Speaker Pelosi," Meadows said, as the audience groaned. "But, we have a bit of experience with this...we do now how to get rid of speakers."

FreedomWorks leader Maggie Sandrock, who is chair of the Harnett County GOP in North Carolina, said the Democrats are desperate. Especially Pelosi. It seems as though the speaker is relying on "theater" and "diversionary tactics" in order to hide the fact that the Democrats have no case against the president, Sandrock told Townhall.

"They know they can't beat him in November," she said.

Following the press conference, the FreedomWorks activists split up into groups to bring their message to members of Congress in the nearby Senate buildings. They were able to speak with both Republican and Democratic staff, including the offices of Sens. Doug Jones, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Joe Manchin, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, Tim Scott, Bob Casey, Dick Durbin, Tammy Duckworth, Tim Kaine, Mark Warner, Chris Van Hollen, Ben Sasse, and Majority Leader McConnell.
