Al Gore on Climate Change: Obama's Arctic Drilling Plan is 'Insane'

Al Gore has boldly called for a ban on all oil and gas activity in the polar region, defying Obama's Arctic Drilling Plan as "insane."

The commonly known oil provider "Shell," also referred to as the "Royal Dutch Shell," has recently prepared to drill an exploratory well in the Arctic Ocean under Obama's approval.

However, Obama is not a complete "arctic drilling monster," like some people would believe. He actually has provided a lot of hindrances to arctic drilling in the past but recently went to Twitter to address the need to carry on with arctic drilling in the future.

On Thursday afternoon, President Obama took to his newly-minted personal Twitter account to answer questions about climate change. After fielding a question about climate denial, the president took on the controversial question of drilling in the Arctic — something that has been seen as contradictory to his interest in fighting climate change.

It truly is in the hands of the president, who has the authority to drill into the Arctic.

The decision could also bear a lot of costly ramifications for wildlife. The area in which Shell plans to conduct ice management is a prime feeding ground for walruses, something that Gore believes should not be imposed upon by human beings.

Despite this, in attempts to reform the climate crisis and obtain “20% of the world’s undiscovered, recoverable oil and gas” that is found in these arctic shelves, Obama clearly believes it is imperative to continue with the drilling. Gore opposes that notion.

“I think Arctic drilling is insane. I think that countries around the world would be very well advised to put restrictions on drilling for oil in the Arctic ocean. “I think the Deepwater Horizon spill was warning enough. The conditions are so hostile for human activity there. I think it’s a mistake to drill for oil in the Arctic. I think that ought to be banned,” says Gore.

Gore isn’t the only one who disagrees with Obama on this issue. Bernie Sanders recently wrote to Obama asking him to cancel the lease that gives Shell-and other oil companies-the right to drill in the area.

Gore’s agenda on the other hand stems from his deeply rooted passion in addressing the climate crisis. Remember his Oscar-winning ‘Inconvenient Truth?’ Since then, his political agenda has been neglected as he fully submits himself to his climate agenda with his climate reality project with his primary goals being:

Focusing on his two proposed fixes for climate change: raising up campaigners in eight key countries, and improving the business environment for wind and solar and other clean energy sources.
