The Department of Justice has released new documents relating to the FBI's so-called case against former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Handwritten FBI notes reveal the FBI's strategy ahead of their Jan. 24, 2017 interview with Flynn.

The notes, reportedly belonging to Jim Baker, reveal the FBI was planning a perjury trap for the retired three-star general as part of their investigation into the now-debunked allegation that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.

"What is our goal? Truth/admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute," the notes reveal. The notes also acknowledged the "White House will be furious" if the FBI was "seen as playing games," which they were.

The notes -- handwritten by former FBI general counsel James A. Baker, Fox News is told -- indicated that agents planned to get Flynn “to admit to breaking the Logan Act” and catch him in a lie. The bombshell documents strongly suggested the agents weren't focused on investigating his contacts with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, but instead were trying to get him removed.

The Justice Department turned over the documents just this week, even though a February 2018 standing order in the case required the government to turn over any exculpatory materials in its possession that pertained to Flynn.

Flynn previously said top FBI officials, including then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, pressed him not to have an attorney present during the questioning with two agents that ultimately led to his guilty plea on a single charge of lying to federal authorities. One of those agents was Peter Strzok, who has since been fired from the bureau after his anti-Trump text messages came to light. Flynn has withdrawn his guilty plea and has been seeking exoneration.

The notes corroborate allegations made by Flynn's attorneys that the FBI engaged in prosecutorial misconduct against their client. Earlier this week, former Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr calling for full transparency in the Flynn case. Flynn's top attorney, Sidney Powell, insists Flynn was part of an FBI set up and coerced into making a guilty plea.
