ICYMI: Warren Endorses DA Who Dropped All Charges Against Jussie Smollett

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has endorsed Illinois District Attorney Kim Foxx for re-election. Foxx is the district attorney currently under investigation for dismissing all charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett over the actor's report of a fake hate crime. In a tweet, Warren described the controversial district attorney as a "champion invested in rethinking the country's approach to criminal justice reform." That approach must involve giving a pass to celebrities who abuse hate crime laws in order to advance their acting careers.

In Mar. 2019, an Illinois grand jury returned a 16-count indictment against the actor, who filed a false police report claiming he had been attacked by two MAGA hat-wearing thugs who wrapped a noose around his neck and shouted racial and homophobic slurs as they allegedly poured a chemical substance over his body. Smollett's hate crime turned out to be a complete hoax when the two so-called attackers revealed the actor had actually hired them to stage the fake crime. The actor's fraud cost the city of Chicago an incredible amount of valuable police resources, including nearly 1900 hours of overtime work.

Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx inexplicably dropped all charges against Smollett and reportedly wiped the actor's record clean. There was bipartisan outrage and Cook County Judge Michael Toomin appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the district attorney's actions. Recently, the same judge has ordered Google to turn over data to assist investigators in the case. The data includes stored pictures, emails, messages, location information and other stored data on the Google Drives of both the actor and his manager.
