Multiple medical helicopters were seen in the area, looking to transport victims to a nearby hospital.

UPDATE (7:10 p.m. EST):

As of now, it's unclear how many victims there are.

Witnesses recounted what took place (via the Denver Post):

“He didn’t say sh**,” said one of them, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “He just came in and started shooting.”

The other witness said the gunman “let off a couple of shots, then was silent, and then he let off a couple more. He wasn’t spraying.”

The two men were able to escape out the back of the store.

Others said they made their way out of the building and helped others to do the same.

One survivor shared his faith during an interview on Fox 31.

UPDATE (9:05 p.m. EST):

According to the Wall Street Journal, at least six are dead, including one police officer.

Boulder Police Department Commander Kerry Yamaguchi confirmed the shooting suspect is now in custody.

"I can share with the public today, or this evening, that there is no ongoing public threat," Yamaguchi said during a press conference. "We do have a person of interest in custody, that person was injured during the incident, and is currently being treated for their injuries."

He said a quick law enforcement response undoubtedly saved innocent lives in the area.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) released a statement about the shooting:

UPDATE (10:30 p.m. EST):

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold revealed that officer Eric Talley, 51, was killed in the line of duty. He was the first one to respond to the supermarket. He had been with the Boulder Police Department since 2010.

"Our hearts go out to all the families impacted," Herold said during the press conference.
