The 2020 election cycle has been strange. No one can deny that. When former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg entered the race his campaign strategy was the most unique one. He decided to skip Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. Instead, he sunk all his resources into Super Tuesday states.

He spent hundreds of millions of dollars and came out with a whopping four electoral votes on Super Tuesday. He took the American Samoa territory. That was it.

Even though Bloomberg's campaign looked doomed, Kevin Sheekey, the campaign manager sent an email to supporters at 12:30 a.m. EST Wednesday morning to make it clear they had a plan to win.

Hey friend --

I’m the campaign manager here at Mike Bloomberg 2020, and I want to thank you for joining our team at this critical moment. People like you are coming together across the country to form a nationwide coalition because they know Mike is the candidate to get it done -- he will unite our country and defeat Donald Trump.

Don’t just take our word for it, check out the numbers:

We’re climbing in the polls and building the field’s most diverse, engaged and committed coalition. We’ve had more than 2 million conversations with voters. Over 300,000 people have taken action with the campaign. 2,400 staff members are on our team in 43 states & territories making sure we win in November.

No matter how you want to participate, there’s a role for you on our team -- and the time to act is right now. Watch and share our powerful video, “How We Will Win” to let your friends and family know about our campaign’s strategy to run a national campaign -- AND WIN.

Thanks for being on the team!

Kevin Sheekey,
Bloomberg 2020

The email also included an ad called "How we will win."

Fast forward a few hours later and former New York City mayor dropped out of the race. Makes you wonder what changed in the few hours between this email and when the campaign decided to close up shop.

And to think, the hundreds of millions of dollars Bloomberg spent on ad buys could have been used for something more productive, like helping fight America's homelessness or the coronavirus. He spent more than $500 million of his personal money to make himself a laughing stock. Bravo!
