Dems, You Might Want To Re-Evaluate Having Omar Talk About 'Racist Tropes'

During an appearance on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show," Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) talked about the "racist tropes" she and other people of color have endured over the years. Specifically, she was referencing President Donald Trump's tweets this past weekend when he told Omar, and members of "The Squad" to "go back to where they came from."

"Many of us, as I said today, when we're brown and black in this country, have been subjected to the old, racist trope of 'go back to where you came from,' where it happens on a school playground or inside the hallway or someone shouting at you in the street, and many of us have had our responses," Omar said with a smile. "And now, today, and yesterday, we had to figure out how to respond, it coming from the President of the United States. And we were reminded, something that my 7-year-old says, 'Does he know he is President of the United States?'"

"And we had to make sure to let him know that here, in this country, we see everyone, we welcome everyone and we remind people that they are valued," the Congresswoman said. "And we're not going to allow him to continue his throwing of the bile of garbage that constantly comes out of his mouth, that allows for the media to be distracted truly from delivering the kind of insight investigation into the lawlessness that is of his administration."

Out of all of the people the Democrats could use to talk about racist tropes, Omar is going to be the spokesperson? Seriously? Do they not see anything wrong with this? Do they not see the irony?

Since Omar took office in January, she has repeatedly made anti-Semitic tropes. She has continually pushed the notion that those who believe in defending Israel have "dual loyalty." And she can't even call the people who carried out the attack on September 11th "terrorists." No. In her eyes, they're just "some people who did something." Oh, and let's not forget her defending Rep. Rashida Tlaib's comments about the Holocaust giving her a "calming feeling."

Before the Democrats try to take the moral high ground and come off as the peacemakers and the party that represents minorities, they might want to take a trip down memory lane...and find a better spokesperson to deliver the message.
