The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have made it explicitly clear that the abolition of prisons is part of their platform. They insist they'll combat crime — sorry, support 'public safety' — by spending billions of our tax dollars on affordable housing, education, healthcare, and other social programs.
Because if that carjacker just had a nice apartment, he wouldn't have stolen your Kia. Or something.
It's not naivety, it's intentional depravity. Socialists need the support of criminals, and they need the chaos caused by crime to hold on to power. If you, or your loved one, happens to get robbed, raped, maimed, or murdered, they've got to make some sacrifices in pursuit of their communist utopia.
They argue crime is simply driven by poverty; that's not true. Poverty is caused by the same factors that lead to crime: poor self-control, low intelligence, and anti-social behavior. You do not address these things by throwing more money at the problem.
But that's a topic for another time. Instead, I'd like to remind readers that the DSA isn't really going to abolish prisons. Not all of them, anyway.

Sure, the guy who raped you will get to walk free and get a nice three-bedroom apartment on your dime, but prisons will still exist for people like you, me, and anyone else who is deemed an enemy of the communism the Left wishes to inflict on us.
If you don't know who Angela Davis is, she's the American communist who was tried and acquitted of murder and kidnapping charges related to an assault on a California courthouse. Davis bought a shotgun, which was duct-taped to the head of California Superior Court Judge Harold Haley by 17-year-old Jonathan Jackson. Jackson stormed the courtroom to free his brother, George, and other inmates. That gun went off and killed Judge Haley.

In the hostage standoff, they blew the judge’s head off. She was arrested in connection
This is why Angela Davis is famous https://t.co/PKmPXH9g0l
She's now one of the most well-known advocates of prison abolition.
For some people, that is.
For those imprisoned by Davis' beloved communists? Not so much.
Angela Davis is the most famous prison abolitionist of the last fifty years.

She built her name on one rule: no one should be caged for their beliefs.
Then political prisoners in communist regimes wrote to her. 🧵 pic.twitter.com/0dJ3PokzyP
In August 1972, Jiří Pelikán, the former director of Czechoslovak Television and a lifelong communist, wrote to Davis. Pelikan asked Davis to visit several prisoners — Milan Hübl, the historian; Jaroslav Šabata, the psychologist; Karel Kyncl and Jiří Hochman, the journalists — who had been imprisoned by communists for defending reform.
In August 1972, two months after her acquittal, a letter reached her through the New York Review of Books.

Davis never replied to that letter.
A few years later, Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn told the AFL-CIO that Angela Davis said the Czech dissidents 'deserve what they get.'

Lawyer Alan Dershowitz wrote in his 1991 book 'Chutzpah' that he gave Davis' office a list of Soviet Jews who were jailed for wanting to emigrate. Guess how Davis' office responded?
By calling those Jews 'Zionists fascists and opponents of socialism' who belonged in prison.

This follows a decades-long pattern by Davis to refuse to help anyone who ran afoul of, questioned, or sought to reform communist regimes across the globe. East German dissident Rudolf Bahro was another person whom Davis did not bother to advocate for.
So, be warned, all you bleeding-heart Leftists: once you are no longer useful to the DSA, your fate lies down one of two paths: you are lined up against the wall or, if you're lucky, you get to go to prison for years. You will be deemed a threat to the movement, a traitor to the cause, and they will come down on you like a ton of bricks.
Democrats are already laying this groundwork, by the way. Remember when Susan Rice warned businesses, universities, and lawyers who didn't adequately 'resist' President Trump that Democrats would be weaponizing the government against them? Remember the Democrat who said she'd like to ban MAGA voters from Internet access for four years?
They will imprison anyone and everyone who they believe stands in their way, and that includes people who support them. The French Revolution's Reign of Terror murdered thousands of those who supported the revolution and if history doesn't repeat itself, it sure as hell rhymes.
Unfortunately, if America falls as the DSA wants it to, there will be no nation advocating for you. Amnesty International will not campaign for your release. The United Nations will not utter a word. The Red Cross will not make sure you're getting adequate medical care, food, or living conditions. Europe already arrests, fines, and jails people who say mean things online. They'll simply applaud the fact that America is finally as 'enlightened' as they are.
You will be locked away, an ideological prisoner, a thought criminal, while thieves, rapists, and murderers walk free.
The socialists will not abolish prisons; they will just transform them as a place to keep their political opponents.
