What happens when facts no longer matter? What happens when scientific evidence and statistics take a backseat to ideology, especially the ideology of Leftists? I'm old enough to remember when the Left wanted to erase all vestiges of Christianity from the public square. Doing so would usher in an age of reason and enlightenment, rooted in scientific evidence, facts, and logic.
Of course, that didn't happen. Nature abhors a vacuum, and you cannot remove religion from the public sphere without something becoming a new religion. For the Left, it's wokeness and Islamism that have filled the void Left by Christianity. That's why, instead of flying cars, we have a society that believes some women can have penises and men need tampons in their bathrooms.
In that world, where the feelings of the Left rule the day, there is no room for scientific evidence, statistics, and data — especially when those real, tangible things don't align with the delusions and policy preferences of the Left. In Brussels, remigration activist Dries Van Langenhove is learning that facts can be criminal when they don't support the preferred narratives of the powers that be.
Van Langenhove was just found guilty of 'hate speech' for the second time, for the 'crime' of giving a speech that said mass migration was linked to crime and a deterioration of society. That's true. In the U.K., for example, mass migration has made the nation the world leader in sexual assaults, as well as a massive rise in STDs, which I'm sure is totally not related to all those sexual assaults.
But what's most chilling about Van Langenhove's convictions for 'hate speech' is what the judge wrote about Van Langenhove's remarks.

Facts are facts. They are devoid of ideology and narrative spin.
What this judge means is that reality is inciting hatred.
And as all good Leftists, when reality doesn't gel with their ideology, they must act like fascists to quash reality. That's why the Left goes so hard on policing speech and legislation surrounding trans activism. They know that men cannot become women, and that 'trans women' are men. Biological reality will always, invariably, win out. So they have to crush anyone who simply looks at the facts and dares to speak the truth.
How does a society, a culture, survive this? How do you continue as a nation when facts, evidence, and truth are criminalized because reality hurts someone's feelings?
The simple answer is: you don't. And that's the entire point. For decades, Western civilization has been a thorn in the side of the global Left, who would like nothing more than to destroy that civilization and remake it all in the image of the Third World hellholes from which they import our doom.
The truly terrifying part of all this is not merely that Van Longenhove was prosecuted for 'hate speech.' It is that the judge openly and proudly admitted the truthfulness of the statements was irrelevant and even criminal. In other words, reality itself is now a jailable offense if it undermines the preferred narratives of those in power. Once a society crosses that line, there is no limiting principle left. If reality itself is hateful, then every inconvenient statistic, every biological truth, every observable fact becomes subject to censorship, erasure, and punishment.
History shows exactly where this road leads. Regimes that criminalize truth do not become freer, more tolerant, or more enlightened. They become authoritarian, paranoid, and ultimately unsustainable, because reality cannot be permanently suppressed. Reality always wins. The only question is how much damage is done before societies rediscover the courage to say plainly what everyone can already see with their own eyes.
