Decline Is a Choice and We Don't Have to Tolerate It

'All politics is local.'

The older I get, the more true that statement becomes. I've long said that if you don't fight the little tyrannies — the overbearing HOA, the Leftist school board, the woke city council — you cannot fight the bigger ones. In the same vein, the 'Broken Windows' theory of policing works, too. If you treat the small crimes seriously, you restore the social order and take bigger crimes seriously, too.

Democrats do not believe in the 'Broken Windows' theory or the social order. They have ceded control of their party to the extremists and lunatics, and it shows. Blue cities and states that were once beautiful places to live and raise families are now hollowed-out shells of their former selves. In March of last year, I took my eldest to Pontiac, Michigan, for his 18th birthday. We went into Detroit and even, probably unwisely, drove past where Marshall Mathers, the rapper known as Eminem, lived. It's an empty lot now, and much of that area looks like something out of 'The Last of Us,' the dystopian post-zombie apocalypse game.

Parts of my home city, Milwaukee, are that way, too. Same for Chicago, San Francisco, New York, St. Louis, and a slew of other cities. They all have one thing in common: they've all been run by Democrats for decades. And when I say 'run,' I mean 'run into the ground.'

Yesterday, the Department of the Interior announced that D.C.'s historic fountains are once again running.

President Trump is also working to restore and repair the reflecting pool outside the Lincoln Memorial. For years, it was leaking, caked with algae and garbage, and an eyesore. Now it's being sealed and recoated in bright, American blue. Democrats — led by Gavin Newsom — are attacking the project, presenting pics of the in-progress repairs as the finished product.

I get it. Not only can Democrats not let President Trump have a win, but they're also used to their cities looking like nuclear wastelands.

Just the parts others live in, of course. Back in February, New York City was slammed by harsh winter weather. Snowbanks blocked the roads, and trash piled up. But not outside Gracie Mansion, where the socialist Zohran Mamdani lives. His block was miraculously snow- and trash-free, a perfect metaphor for socialist policies and Democratic Party priorities.

In the same way, I'm sure that human feces and open-air drug use don't take place around Gavin Newsom's $9 million Marin mansion. Your kids can step over used hypodermic needles at the park; our Democratic overlords are better than that.

The difference in Meridian Hill Park is astonishing.

President Trump, of course, did not get credit for it.

There is a mentality among the Democrats, and quite a few 'Never Trump' Republicans, to reflexively oppose anything and everything that President Trump does. I'm only half joking when I say that if President Trump announced a cure for cancer tomorrow, they'd all rally in support of osteosarcoma. Tell me I'm wrong.

It has to irk them that President Trump is proving something as simple as it is beautiful: all it takes to make our cities livable again is the will and fortitude to just ... do it. To enforce the laws and crack down on crime. To restore public parks, fountains, and streets to livable, walkable things that are meant to be enjoyed by the law-abiding, tax-paying public. Democrats, on the other hand, believe that criminals can rule the streets, that parks are flop houses for the homeless meth-heads we're buying dentures for, and that we need to spend money on a transgender library story hour coordinator instead of fixing our fountains so our cities look nice.

They know how living in boarded-up, run-down cities demoralizes the populace. That's what they want. After all, America is a colonizing bastion of systemic racism, bigotry, and homophobia. According to them. We don't deserve pretty public spaces because we're an ugly nation.

I disagree, and so does President Trump.

We do not have to live with decline. We do not have to tolerate crime. We do not have to accept social decay. We can choose to live in a beautiful, safe, functioning society.
