AG Secretary Brooke Rollins Just Hit the Brakes on More SNAP Corruption

When I was on SNAP, money was tight, and I drove a relatively beat-up minivan. I had three young kids, after all, and they — along with Wisconsin winters and roads — are hard on cars. The rest of my income went to paying bills, keeping the lights on, and making sure my kids had school supplies, clothes, and other basic necessities.

What we did not have was a luxury vehicle. The thought of purchasing a Bentley or Ferrari never even crossed my mind. Then again, I wasn't a scammer. I was a mom using the program for its intended purpose.

Meanwhile, in just one state, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins revealed that more than 10,000 SNAP recipients were driving luxury vehicles. It's another damning blow to the program, and the Left's narrative that we cannot possibly make any cuts to SNAP because it will hurt poor people. How many genuinely poor people do you know that drive Porsches, dear readers?

I know none. They all drive beaters or take public transportation.

"And this is just in ONE STATE. We need to defend our nutrition programs for those most in need, not for scammers gaming the system," Rollins wrote on X. "These individuals are taking advantage of the American taxpayer. And together with @VP’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, this ends NOW. 4.3M Americans have been moved off of SNAP — but more work to be done!"

I will go to my grave arguing that most of our national deficit and debt would disappear if we cracked down on fraud. But, I'm also not a Democrat. Instead, they like to tax everyone and keep spending like drunken sailors on shore leave.

And I apologize to the drunken sailors for the comparison.

There is no reason why this fraud should be tolerated. The perpetrators of it clearly did not need the money; they were gaming the system so they could live high off the hog while taking money from a program that's meant to feed those who are struggling financially.

MacWaters notes that 20 years ago, just three percent of Massachusetts was on SNAP. That number has ballooned to one in six presently. That means we're being scammed or paying for food for illegal aliens who shouldn't qualify for these benefits anyway.

If this is true, and I've heard reports that it is, we must end this grift, too. That explains how we've got 14,000 people driving Teslas and Alfa Romeros in one state. It's easier to turn a profit on a restaurant when taxpayers are footing the bill for your inventory.

We haven't even begun to grasp it. I think when people hear numbers that end in "billion" or "trillion" our brains can't comprehend that amount. We can understand $600 a month, but $34 trillion seems too unreal to actually exist. But it does. And it's bankrupting us.

As we've seen, California is trying to address these issues by levying a supposed one-time wealth tax on billionaire assets. What the voters who put the referendum on the ballot probably don't know is there's a provision that allows California Democrats to levy that wealth tax on everyone's assets down the road. You're a teacher in Van Nuys? One day, Democrats will look at your house and decide to tax you on its worth — above and beyond your property taxes, of course. Many people will be forced to sell.

And for what? So fraudsters and illegal aliens can drive us off the fiscal cliff in a Land Rover? Nah. Let's hit the brakes before that happens.
