The dirty little not-so-secret of the Left is that it doesn't really care about any of the groups it claims to represent. At the end of the day, it only cares about women, Blacks, gays, and even some immigrants, so long as they are able to help advance the Leftist agenda. Once any of those groups are no longer useful to the cause, the Left turns on them.
We see it in the racist treatment they give conservative Blacks, women who vote for Trump, or gays who don't support the trans agenda. And all of those groups will be thrown under the bus by the Left when it decides to bend the knee to the Islamists slowly overtaking America.
But now we can see it in the Left's shift in attitude towards refugees, too. For years, they've pointed to the poem on the Statue of Liberty as the basis for immigration law: namely, that we couldn't turn away anyone, because Emma Lazarus wrote "Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" 123 years ago.
All that changed, however, when President Trump welcomed dozens of South African refugees to the United States. See, those South Africans are white, and while they're legitimately persecuted by the South African government, the Left was suddenly opposed to welcoming those kind of refugees.
And they're still whining about it today. Of the nearly 4,500 refugees let into the United States since October, all but three of them were from South Africa.

President Donald Trump's overhaul of US refugee policies has created a major shift in the number and nationalities of people admitted to the country, US government data shows.
Since October 2025, 4,499 refugees were resettled in the US, according to the Refugee Processing Center. All, except three from Afghanistan, were South African.
In the last full fiscal year of the Biden administration, which started in October 2023, 125,000 people were accepted from 85 countries.
Last year, Trump halted all refugee admissions, including for applicants from warzones, but allowed Afrikaners, a white minority group he said was persecuted, to seek resettlement. South Africa objected to his characterisation.
In announcing the change, Trump said it would help strengthen national security and public safety.
Priority was to be given to Afrikaner South Africans and "other victims of illegal or unjust discrimination in their respective homelands", according to an announcement.
I can understand why the BBC has a hard time comprehending this. They're used to a government that imports military-aged Islamist males who don't assimilate and make a habit of raping British women (so much so that the U.K. now leads the world in reported sexual assaults).
But President Trump has wisely decided to welcome actual refugees, including women and children, who will assimilate into our culture, not commit acts of terror, and are unlikely to rape American women. This makes the Left very, very angry for some reason.
Leftists have baselessly accused these Afrikaners of being white supremacists who benefited from "white privilege," and they've vocally opposed their refugee status. They also claimed the Afrikaners didn't face persecution back home, a lie that was exposed by the African National Conference, which penned a letter lamenting the fact they wouldn't get to punish the Afrikaners for their "historic privilege."
That letter called the Afrikaner refugees who arrived in America last spring liars and said (emphasis added), "What the instigators of this falsehood seek is not safety, but impunity from transformation. They flee not from persecution, but from justice, equality and accountability for historic privilege."
The other dirty little not-so-secret about the Left is that they agree with the African National Council on this. They believe that people like me, a white woman, and my white sons need to be punished for the things that happened long before we were born. It doesn't matter that our ancestors never owned slaves, that they came from Europe with pennies in their pockets, or that we exercise our "white privilege" by living in a mobile home and not a mansion. We're somehow to blame for all the nation's historical and contemporary ills, and we must face retribution for it (gee, that's a theme with the Left, it seems). I believe the only thing standing in their way is our Constitution and the fact that tens of millions of us are armed to the teeth. Thank God for that.
If this were a boatload of African men in their 20s, the Left would trip over themselves to welcome them. They would tell us not to be racist or Islamophobic and to tolerate these men who hate our culture and our freedoms because diversity is important, and racism is a worse crime than being sexually assaulted by an Islamist who believes women don't have equal rights.
But it's not. It's thousands of Afrikaner families who will come to America and not only assimilate but also express their gratitude for being here by obeying our laws and contributing positively to our society.
The Left's reaction to these refugees tells us all we need to know. It was never about the tired, the poor, or the huddled masses. It was about importing people from cultures diametrically opposed to American culture and our way of life, so as to destroy our country.
