Socialism for the Rest of Us

I wish that what I was about to tell you wasn't true. But it is.

I know someone, an adult, who is an avowed socialist. This person, who shall remain nameless, doesn't work. Instead, this person does livestreams to tout the glories of socialism and the earnest belief that the government will pay for these streams (and everything else) once we institute socialism in the United States.

The "logic" behind this is that, once the government provides for food, housing, and healthcare, we'll all be able to pursue our dreams of being YouTubers. Or something.

I've studied enough history and paid enough attention to know how socialism works (and here, I'll use socialism and communism interchangeably, because they're two sides of the same coin). Instead of being a streamer for the regime, I've warned my acquaintance that everyone who thinks the same will be shipped off to a state-run factory or farm. Food and goods are the priority, comrade.

Only the special people get to do the fun things like painting, writing, and teaching. White-collar jobs go to the connected children and friends of politicians. Those of us who don't get lined up along the wall get to suffer.

There is no better illustration of this than what's currently happening in Cuba. There has been nationwide unrest, the inevitable explosion of 70 years of communist oppression. The nation's power grid, like its economy and other infrastructure, is collapsing.

Sensing the Cuban people are about to throw off the shackles of communism, a bunch of rich, elite Leftists are storming the island to lecture them about why Cuba Libre! is a bad idea. It's a parade of privileged, mostly white, commies who have never lived for a moment under the oppressive boot of the regime they're now propping up.

Here's more:

Socialists from the US and Europe put on a concert in Cuba — just as the country was plunged into third blackout this month Saturday.

A convoy of socialists — including streamer Hasan Piker, the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar, members of Code Pink and lefty Irish hip-hop group Kneecap — is in Cuba with the goal of supporting Cuba’s oppressive communist regime.

But Piker and others have been dogged by criticism for staying in a 5-star hotel in Havana, and Kneecap played a concert in the capital city as the rest of the nation of 11 million people faced yet another major blackout.

Of course, there's a healthy does of blaming "American imperialism" for the failings of socialism.

No, communism had been doing that since 1959.

But I will concede that he's right about one thing: this group of Leftists are terrorists and soulless murderers. Why? In a nation where the power grid can't handle day-to-day demand, they decided to throw a little party that sucked up a lot of electricity.

It's likely this performative nonsense caused another blackout.

Thanks to this Leftist greed and arrogance, a hospital did not have the necessary power to keep ventilators running. Every ventilated patient at that hospital died.

Let me repeat this for the folks in the back: a bunch of Leftists just murdered sick Cubans so they could party in Havana.

And here I thought health care was a right, and that Cuba's socialist system was far superior to our own. I've worked in hospitals; in America, they have back-up generators, so when two different facilities I worked at lost power during storms, our ventilated patients didn't die. Leftists see this as a bug, not a feature, it seems.

Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. They were also caught making starving Cuban children dance for food like trained animals at the local circus.

And while people like Hasan Piker and the Code Pink ghouls stay in five-star hotels, this is how the average Cuban lives:

There are apartments in Gaza that are in better shape than Cuban housing after six decades of socialism.

And for his visit, Hasan Piker donned a $690 shirt, which could feed a Cuban family of four for a year.

But remember: Elon Musk is the greedy one.

For these Leftists, Cuba — and communism — is their way of virtue signaling to the world, but the reality is this: they want to keep people oppressed while they live high off the hog. They see the world and its resources as a limited pie, and they want a big slice. The rest of us? We can fight over the crumbs from our squalid slums.

"But at least you're all equal," they tell us as they sip champagne.

Instead of showing a bit of guilt for killing sick Cubans, Code Pink decided the best thing to do was create ugly art that the struggling Cubans can look at as they stretch out their meager monthly food rations.

There isn't a more useless and evil group of people on the planet.

But they illustrate exactly the point I was trying to make for my commie buddy: communism has two classes. There's the socialism for the elite, the $700 shirt wearing, five-star-hotel-dwelling, rap-party-attending elites.

And then there's communism for the rest of us: blackouts, rundown apartments, dead relatives, crushing poverty, and meager rations.

Make no mistake: this is what the Left wants in America. They want an elite ruling class and the rest of us living under their regime, where food is rationed, health care is terrible, and education is indoctrination. They look at America and hate its prosperity, its relative equality, and its freedom. Its destruction is their goal, and socialism is the path by which they hope to achieve it.

That's why they have all flown to Cuba. They have to stop the Cuban people from ending communism in their nation; if the Cuban people succeed, it sets back their cause here in America for decades. They are terrified of that, and they'll crush any uprising to protect their political agenda.

"Real socialism has never been tried!" they'll tell us. Yes, it has been. Repeatedly. Real socialism always, invariably, leads to communism and goes the way it has in Cuba: rich people get to party while the poors literally die. Unfortunately, even this won't penetrate the thick skulls of the true believers. As we saw, they blame "American imperialism" for the failings of an ideology that always ends with crushing poverty and a massive body count.

The defenders of socialism always insist the failures aren’t real, or that they’re someone else’s fault. But when the same pattern repeats across decades and continents — privilege at the top, misery and death at the bottom — it's not an anomaly. It's the intentional design.

Cuba isn’t a distortion of socialism. It’s the clearest expression of it, and we would all do well to pay attention to what it's say.
