Hijab Solidarity? No, Thank You.

I hate being right all the time, but when you've spent as much time paying attention to politics as I have, it's hard not to develop a knack for seeing exactly where things are headed long before we get there.

Almost nine years ago, I made a sarcastic comment on then-Twitter about Western women like me one day being forced to wear the hijab in solidarity with Muslim women. Who, by and large, have no choice in the matter.

That same year, apparently, the Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, said pretty much the same thing. This video didn't come to my attention until yesterday, when it was shared on X.

"Any woman can wear a headscarf," Van der Bellen said, "and if this continues, which brings me to my next question. With Islamophobia becoming increasingly widespread, the day will come when we will have to ask all women to wear a headscarf. All women. As solidarity with those who do so for religious reasons.

I cannot emphasize this enough: no. I will never wear a headscarf in "solidarity" with Muslim women. I am a Catholic, and always will be.

But the creep is there, and it's just beginning. Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan donned a hijab to talk about the state's Somali community (she really has a thing for them). She, like me, is Catholic but I'm guessing she's more the cafeteria variety.

And in New York, the police department gave a tutorial on how to properly wear the hijab.

Where are the feminists? Where are the Handmaid's Tale cosplayers who warned us that Donald Trump was about to have us all fitted for red robes?

Silent.

Women in Iran are beaten — sometimes to death — for the "crime" of not wearing a hijab. In many Islamic countries, not wearing one means you can be raped for being immodest. Honor killings have happened because women refuse to wear the hijab, thus "dishonoring" their families.

In the U.K., a lawyer for an Afghan "asylum seeker" accused of raping a teenage girl said his client wasn't used to a culture where women were treated like human beings, with things like rights, freedoms, and equality.

In the grand scheme of intersectional politics, those Muslims win. Every time. The Left — in the U.K. and elsewhere — has made it very clear that even being perceived as racist is a worse crime than any other. It's why Australia enacted new speech laws and gun control after Islamists shot Jews on Bondi Beach. It's why British authorities turned a blind eye to the Muslim grooming gangs who raped and assaulted hundreds of girls. It's why French activist Yona Faedda was taken into police custody following an interview where she said Islam is a threat to women.

That same position landed the recently deceased French actress Brigitte Bardot in French courts many times over the years, too.

Much in the same way that the Left, with the aid of feminists, have erased women to appease mentally-ill "trans-identifying" men, the Left will also oppress and subjugate women to the will of Islam.

They'll sell it as "solidarity" at first, and some women — looking at you, Peggy Flanagan — will trip over themselves to be the first in line to show how tolerant and inclusive they are. It will become what the COVID masks once were: a virtue-signaling symbol of the Left's smug sense of moral superiority.

But for women like me? Women who will refuse to kowtow to the backwards, oppressive, and misogynistic ideology known as Islam? We won't be asked. We will be told.

And I will still refuse.
