I have followed politics closely for more than two decades. My first real presidential election was the 2004 race between John Kerry and George W. Bush. As a college student, I was — like most 20-somethings — liberal. That lasted right up until I realized the Democrats were lying to me about Bush reinstating the draft. That realization led me to question everything, and thus began my shift to conservatism.
That experience is why I'm absolutely baffled by the utter implosion of the Democratic Party. Not only have they wholeheartedly embraced the losing side on every major issue from illegal immigration to crime to "trans rights," they've also become so politically short-sighted that they've set themselves up for serious trouble down the road.
I was one of countless conservatives who spent the Obama and Biden years warning the Left that the lawfare they engaged in, the political hypocrisy they embraced, and the precedents they were setting would come back to bite them on the rear end.
They didn't listen, of course. And now they're screaming about the "weaponization" of the DOJ as the Trump administration holds Democrats like Letitia James to their own standard: that no one is above the law. Of course, unlike the trumped-up charges (no pun intended) James and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg pushed on President Trump, mortgage fraud is a crime, and James is accused of that crime.
But I digress.

I'm not here to talk about James' legal woes. I'm here to warn her, and her fellow Democrats, that this new ICE tracking system they're pushing is going to backfire on them.
INSANE. New York AG Letitia James announced a new portal where residents can upload photos and videos of ICE operations so they can be “investigated.”

This is the latest salvo in the Democrats' war on federal law enforcement officers. Democrats seem to only respect them on January 6, and then spend the other 364 days of the year calling them "Nazis," "the Gestapo," and "slave drivers." They have passed unenforceable legislation in California to unmask those agents, thus exposing them (and their families) to harassment, abuse, and threats from the Democratic Party's violent base (a violent base Democrats fear, too, by the way).
As I've mentioned before, the correct thing for Democrats to do would be to put forth legislation that would abolish ICE and repeal or change federal immigration laws. Yet I notice Democrats haven't made any serious effort to do either of those things. It's possible they know that would be the proverbial nail in their electoral coffin.
At least that would be intellectually honest, even if I — and tens of millions of others — would disagree with it. The selective enforcement or ignoring of federal law is an untenable state of things, and we cannot spend every four years wondering which federal statutes are and aren't being enforced under the current administration.
The flood of illegal immigrants, including violent gang members and drug dealers, is part of their plan to undermine and collapse America so they can rebuild it into the socialist utopia they so desperately want. They don't care how many people are harmed in the process of chasing that goal, either.
Most Americans, on the other hand, do. That's why Democrats have historically low approval ratings.
Democrats thrive on the chaos, however. To that end, they never look further than the next political hill they need to climb, and they never consider the consequences of their actions. That ended poorly for Dems when Chuck Schumer changed the Senate filibuster rules to make it easier for Democrats to pass legislation only to see Republicans use the same rules when they were in power.
As someone I know says, "The other side gets to move and shoot, too." That means this sort of political bullying of federal agents will be used against a Democratic administration in the future. The question is not if but when that'll happen.
I suspect, although I am not encouraging this, that conservatives and online trolls will inundate this tip line with spam, memes, and false reports. Back during the pandemic, ticked off people overwhelmed New York's COVID snitch line, flooding it with Hitler memes and obscene messages.
Democrats weren't too happy about this technological rebellion, and they won't be happy about Republican snitch lines targeting Democratic Party agents down the road.
But they can't say they weren't warned.
