Katie Porter Is the Poster Child for Today's Democratic Party

Greg Nash/Pool via AP

California's Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter had a bad week.

Not only did she flip out when a reporter asked her a very simple question -- namely, how she planned to win if she didn't court Republican voters -- but old footage of Porter berating staff resurfaced, too.

Along with that, so did prior allegations that Porter abused her ex-husband, including pouring a hot pot of potatoes on him during an argument.

But what's even more troubling than that is Porter's past remarks on abortion. And since we're dredging up the things Porter has said and done in the past, it seems salient to revisit how she feels about babies in the womb.

We'll start with her alarming assertion that it's okay to abort a baby because of economic reasons, including inflation.

She asserted inflation driven by President Biden's policies justified abortion. "The fact that we're seeing this jump in expenses ... pay more at the grocery store, pay more at the pump, pay more for housing is a reason" to kill an unborn child in the womb.

When Donald Trump won reelection in November, Porter went on television and said her 12-year-old daughter was worried about getting an abortion with President Trump in the White House.

"I went to pick up my daughter from water polo practice and she's 12. And she got in the car and she was crying," Porter said. "She said, 'Mom, Trump won. Trump's gonna win. And what if I get r*ped and I need to have an abortion?"

In what world does any 12-year-old girl worry about or say such things? In Katie Porter's household, apparently.

Porter is not the outlier here. She's a mainstream Democrat spouting what now passes for mainstream Democratic policy. Over the last week, it was revealed that VA AG candidate Jay Jones, one of Porter's fellow Democrats, talked openly about wanting to shoot his Republican colleague, Todd Gilbert. If that wasn't ghoulish enough for you, Jones also said he wished Gilbert's children -- who were two and five years old at the time -- would get shot and die in their mother's arms so Gilbert would feel pain and move on policy.

While some Democrats have condemned him, only a smattering have called for Jones to drop out of the race.

Meanwhile, Katie Porter openly abuses reporters, her staff, her ex-husband, and her daughter (by feeding her lies about abortion), and Democrats want her to be the next Governor of California.

There is something profoundly wrong with the Democratic Party, and you need look no further than Katie Porter to see what it is.
