Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Uses Charlie Kirk's Death to Lie About Republicans

For quite some time, Democrats have used tragedies as opportunities to push their political agenda. We saw it in August, after the horrific shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. And we're seeing it again this week, after the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for gun control, as did Elizabeth Warren, Ilhan Omar, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Eric Swalwell, Pete Buttigieg, and Barack Obama.

Because his fellow Democrats have the gun control angle covered, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson decided to take a different angle and blame gerrymandering:

Here's Johnson's op-ed (emphasis added):

Of course, there is no place for political violence in America. I deplore the killing of Charlie Kirk and the targeting of anyone for offering a political opinion.

The freedom to express differing viewpoints is a vital element in a healthy democracy. So, when potentially deadly gunfire is directed at public figures such as Steve Scalise, Gabby Giffords, and Donald Trump, or the attempt to silence the Pennsylvania Governor by arson or the assassination of a Minnesota legislator, perpetrators are not attacking just an individual; they are targeting our political foundation.

Ideas, logic, compassion, and truth are the appropriate munitions to direct at a political opponent.  We need true debate, a competition among opinions, to advance political agendas. In modern American government that is sadly lacking.

It has become too easy to silence opposition. Peaceful protests are interrupted and gerrymandered legislative districts remove opposition voices. Speakers on college campuses are bullied, media outlets threatened with lawsuits, and specious criminal investigations target those who dare challenge those in power.

Eliminating an opponent becomes the ultimate, twisted attempt to silence.

Of course, every single thing mentioned by Mayor Johnson in the above paragraph has been done by Democrats and their supporters.

When Christians held a public concert in Seattle, radical Antifa activists attacked them and the city's Democratic Mayor, Bruce Harrell issued a statement condemning the Christians and indicating his intent to enact discriminatory practices in event permitting writing in a statement, "While there are broad First Amendment requirements around permitting events under free speech protections, I am directing the Parks Department to review all of the circumstances of this application to understand whether there were legal location alternatives or other adjustments that could have been pursued." He added, "In the face of an extreme right-wing national effort to attack our trans and LGBTQ+ communities, Seattle will continue to stand unwavering in our embrace of diversity, love for our neighbors, and commitment to justice and fairness."

In Massachusetts, the state is gerrymandered so there are zero Republican congressional representatives, and in several Democratic states, the gerrymandered maps suppress Republican representation.

Yes, President Trump has sued media outlets for false and misleading stories, leading to those stations reaching settlements with the President's legal team.

It takes some chutzpah to talk about a "specious" criminal investigation after Letitia James and Alvin Bragg ran on a platform of prosecuting President Trump for "crimes" related to Stormy Daniels.

As to the bullying of speakers on college campuses -- yes. The Left routinely bullies conservative speakers on college campuses. Trans activists assaulted Riley Gaines at San Francisco State University and forced her to barricade herself in a room for hours. In 2020, a TPUSA activist was harassed at Berkeley for handing out conservative literature. And on September 10, Charlie Kirk was speaking on a campus when he was murdered.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson didn't provide any examples of these issues he mentions, because they invariably go one way.

Editor's Note: The mainstream media continues to deflect, gaslight, spin, and lie about President Trump, his administration, and conservatives.
