As America’s massive national debt continues climbing to even greater heights, recently surpassing $23 trillion, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has introduced a resolution that calls for the installation of national debt clocks in two rooms. The conservative congressman’s “Know Debt Resolution” would add “debt clocks in the main meeting rooms of the House Budget Committee and House Appropriations Committee,” according to his website.

In a tweet Rep. Roy expressed his gratitude to cosponsors Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL), Jeff Duncan (R-SC) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ).

Rep. Roy’s website says “the purpose of putting a debt clock in both committee rooms is to force members of Congress to recognize that we have a problem.”

He points out the bipartisan nature of government’s excessive spending, noting that “most Republicans and Democrats in Washington have found something they can regularly agree on in a bipartisan basis — increased spending across the board.”

The text of the resolution includes a statement asserting that the country’s “national debt is the greatest threat to the national security of the United States.”

Responding to a Twitter user’s inquiry about the cost, Congressman Roy explained that he inexpensively installed a debt clock in his office.

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie (R) expressed his support for the idea on Twitter. During an interview with Townhall in 2018 Rep. Massie mentioned having a debt clock in his office and seeing it rise by trillions since he won his first election.
