U.S. Border Patrol Agents continue apprehending previously convicted sex offenders. Authorities came to the aid of a twice-convicted and twice-deported man who called 911 after getting lost. The man had two convictions in the U.S. for “sex with a minor,” according to CBP.
“Tucson Sector agents apprehended Adrian Castro-Garcia, a 33-year-old Mexican national illegally present in the country, late Monday evening. Castro-Garcia called 911 after he became lost in the desert after illegally crossing the international border. Agents quickly located him and provided medical attention,” CBP explained.
CBP reported that this man had been “convicted of sex with a minor in 2013 and again in 2014 by Los Angeles County, California. In both cases he was sentenced to more than 150 days of incarceration” and each time he was removed from United States subsequent to serving each sentence.

A different press release highlights the arrest of another Mexican man previously convicted of a sexual offense in the United States: “Agents apprehended Jesus Contreras-Covarrubias, 55, a citizen of Mexico, after he entered the United States illegally. During processing, records checks revealed that he was convicted in 1992 of felony sexual abuse, in Polk County, Oregon,” CBP noted.

Authorities also arrested a Mexican man wanted in both Oregon and Mexico when he illegally entered the United States along with two other people. “Records checks revealed one of the men, Juan Francisco Espinosa-Burgos, to be wanted for rape in Oregon City, Oregon. He is also wanted in Mexico for homicide,” CBP’s press release said.
Earlier this week I highlighted the September 4th arrest of a Mexican man deported in 2012 and 2016 who had a 2015 conviction “of molestation of a minor and sexual battery in 2015 by Fulton County, Georgia,” according to CBP. Authorities also apprehended a Mexican man on Monday who had been removed from the country last year—he had been “convicted of Sexual Lewdness w/Child less than 14 years of age in 2016 out of the state of Nevada,” CBP reported.
As Tim highlighted yesterday, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost tweeted some statistics noting that “This fiscal year through August, Border Patrol agents have encountered & arrested 933 criminal gang members.”

All of this underscores the importance of carefully controlling who enters the country because as Border Patrol Chief Provost noted in another tweet, “Border security is national security.”
