Border Patrol Agents Arrest Previously Deported Convicted Molester

Last Wednesday Border Patrol agents apprehended yet another previously deported convicted criminal. The Mexican man named Heliodoro Regino-Garcia had been deported in 2012 and 2016 according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release.

"Records checks revealed Regino-Garcia was convicted of molestation of a minor and sexual battery in 2015 by Fulton County, Georgia," CBP reported. "Regino-Garcia is the second sex offender arrested by Tucson Sector Border Patrol in the past 10 days with a conviction in Georgia. He will face federal prosecution for immigration violations."

The man was captured along with other people in an automobile driven by an American citizen:

"Agents discovered five illegal aliens in a Toyota Yaris with a United States citizen driver. The driver was arrested on human smuggling charges," according to CBP. "The illegal aliens, including Regino-Garcia, face federal prosecution for immigration violations. The vehicle was seized."

The issue of previously deported convicted criminals attempting to reenter the country highlights the critical importance of controlling who enters the country. Last month Border Patrol agents arrested a seven-time deportee who had been convicted of child abuse and a two-time deportee who had been convicted of child rape.
