Okay, I won’t lie — I totally forgot that Colin Kaepernick was a thing. Oh wait — he’s not. The former NFL quarterback who protested his way out of football and generational wealth is whining again, having penned a new memoir no one will read. He once again showed a) why he’s in the wilderness and b) what got him there. He simply doesn’t know which battles to fight.
He decided to take a swipe at Jay-Z. Yes, the hip-hop star said it first, but Colin, c’mon; you’re not going to win this fight. He also thinks he can deliver an equal counterpunch to the other half of the Beyoncé power couple. Because Target is rolling back its DEI antics, Kaepernick declared he won’t sell his book there. I’m sure Target, a corporate giant, won’t miss the circus coming to town over that. The former 49ers quarterback also said that Jay-Z’s continued relationship with these corporate entities is a sign of a guilty conscience (via NBC News):
Colin Kaepernick said he believes that Jay-Z’s recent comments about him speak to a “guilty conscience,” as the fallout between the former quarterback and the rapper deepens. Kaepernick responded as part of an extensive interview with NBC News after Jay-Z dissed the athlete during a recent concert.
In July, Jay-Z took aim at Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers star, mentioning him and his settlement with the NFL in an impromptu rap during a series of concerts at Yankee Stadium.
“They run out of characters, had to bring back up [Kaepernick] again,” Jay-Z said, referring to people who have criticized him for a recent partnership with Target. “Buddy took a check, I ain’t even mad at him, but along with that check you have to sign a non-disparagement. I’m the one [the NFL] can’t control.”
Earlier this year, Jay-Z drew ire when it was announced that he would sell an exclusive version of his “Reasonable Doubt” album at the retailer, which has been subjected to boycotts by Black shoppers after it rolled back its diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
Kaepernick, on the other hand, is honoring the boycott despite the potential financial cost. A spokesperson for the former quarterback confirmed he would not be selling his upcoming memoir, “The Perilous Fight,” in Target stores. Target did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Yeah, I tried to get through this, but I don’t care. I’m sorry, Colin. No one cares. You and Jay-Z were friends; now you’re not. It happens. But dude, your time has come and gone.
Jay-Z will still be iconic. You will still be a loser, and the NFL will survive. You will be forgotten.
