I’ve already written about a number of extremely crazy weekends that we’ve already had this college football season. Perhaps no story will top what we saw out of the Norfolk State loss at the FCS level yesterday.

Head coach Michael Vick (yes, that Michael Vick) had maneuvered his team into position for a win against North Carolina Central. His team only needed to kneel the ball out to secure the victory and go home. As any intelligent coach would do, he called victory formation.

His team apparently had other ideas.

Instead of taking a knee and running out the clock, his offensive coordinator called an option play that was blown up in the backfield, resulting in a fumble. North Carolina would then march down the field and score a touchdown to give them a one-point lead.

Amazingly, Vick managed to get his team to drive down the field and into field goal range before time ran out. Unfortunately, the kicker missed.

A completely dejected Vick was forced to face the media and explain the nearly-unexplainable loss. It seems that he partly blames himself for taking his headset off after making the call to kneel the ball out.

Thankfully for Vick, there is still plenty of time for someone else to take the title of Most Embarrassing Loss of the Season.
