Women’s tennis champion Aryna Sabalenka said she approves of the Women’s Tennis Association’s new rule barring biological males from competing with women.

During a press conference at the National Bank Open in Montreal, a reporter asked what she thinks of the new rule.

“I think it's really important to keep the fairness in our tour, and it's obvious that biologically … the men are way stronger than women,” Sabalenka replied. “So I feel like it would be not really fair for the women to compete against biological men. So …I believe it took them a little while to make this decision, and … I support it. But for me, I'm focusing on myself, on my goals, you know, whatever it takes. If they want to test us all, I'm happy to do that. It's pretty fair, and let's keep it that way.”

Former women’s tennis star Martina Navratilova, who has been outspoken on this issue, supported Sabalenka’s comments. “There is nothing controversial about Aryna’s  take on the WTA policy at all. Also- it is not a transgender policy- it’s a sex test for the SRY gene . Period,” she wrote in a post on X.

The Women’s Tennis Association introduced a new eligibility policy effective in July 2026 that requires all players to undergo a one-time genetic sex test via cheek swab, blood or saliva sample to screen for the SRY gene on the Y chromosome. Those who test positive will not be allowed to compete.

Players must sign a document acknowledging possible disciplinary action for refusing the test, and there are no known transgender women currently competing on the tour. “The WTA’s women’s eligibility policy is designed to promote equal athletic opportunities in women’s professional tennis and maintain fair competition for all players participating in WTA tournaments,” the association’s leadership said.

The rule change was seen as a major victory for those fighting for fairness in women’s sports. The debate over this issue has persisted for a decade, with leftists using their influence over institutions to coerce schools and sports leagues to allow biological males who identify as transgender to compete against women despite the obvious physical advantages.

For a time, the left got their way since these institutions were too afraid to buck the woke Sanhedrin and face cancellation. Now, the tide has turned and the left no longer has the hold it once had as more people were willing to call out the absurdity of progressive gender ideology.
