Fat vs. Fascism

Can we all just admit that the term "fascist" and its various forms have officially jumped the shark? Like the beloved pejoratives of the Left that came before it — racist, bigot, homophobe, Nazi — the Left has played the "fascist" card so many times the word is devoid of all true meaning.

The final nail in the coffin of the Left's insane war against anything they don't like came after a socialist activist declared GLP-1 drugs, used in weight loss, are "fascistic."

Why?

Because, according to Da'Shaun L. Harrison, those drugs exist in "a world fixated on genociding fat people." Prepare yourself for the logic pretzels Harrison twists to justify his insane position.

"The political deployment of GLP-1s is fascistic. Not because individuals take them, but because the conditions under which they become necessary are shaped by a world fixated on genociding fat people," he said.

As always, this is somehow rooted in anti-blackness, racism, and slavery.

"This is a structural critique that asks what happens when the conditions produced by capitalism, by public health, by the state apparatus, and by anti-black desire align around a single bodily ideal that leaves little to no room for divergence and punishes any body that does," Harrison continued. "Whereas earlier diet drugs were often associated with vanity or addiction, GLP-1s are positioned as responsible medicine, promising relief rather than restraint."

"But to understand why the deployment of GLP-1s is fascistic requires turning to Frantz Fanon's account of black flesh under colonial surveillance," Harrison added.

Um, what?

One user took this a step further, claiming the concept of a daily caloric intake was "dictated by slavers trying to figure out the minimum amount they could feed enslaved people without being sued for them taking food from others. The health complex was built on experimentation on Black populations." She also called Harrison's insane views "a fair take."

You won't be able to see her post because she locked down her account. If I wrote something that categorically stupid, I would probably hide, too.

There is clearly money and control in the "body positivity movement," or guys like Harrison wouldn't be desperately trying to tell people it's "fascistic" to use GLP-1s. And I can prove it with two words: socialized medicine.

On average, adult obesity costs the U.S. healthcare system more than $170 billion per year; childhood obesity costs about $1.3 billion. That means an adult with obesity spends at least $1,861 extra per year and a severely obese adult $3,097. They require extra doctor visits, hospital stays, procedures, specialized equipment, and medications to deal with their various obesity-related ailments.

Wouldn't making sure you have a tranche of diseased, morbidly obese people dependent on the Left for their very survival be ideal? Sure seems that way to me.

As someone who worked in healthcare and as someone who has fought to lose weight her entire life, Telling black Americans that weight-loss drugs are fascism and rooted in racism and slavery is what's actually racist.

Black Americans, genetically, are already predisposed to certain chronic diseases like heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), and respiratory diseases like asthma. Being overweight and obese makes all of those diseases orders of magnitude worse. It's not much better for non-black people who are overweight or morbidly obese, either.

Back in April, Dolly Martinez, who once appeared on TLC's "My 600-Lb. Life," died, likely from obesity-related complications. She was just 30 years old. Before her death, Martinez had congestive heart failure and was oxygen-dependent. Several other "body positivity" influencers and TV stars have met an early death, too. Jamie Lopez was 37 when she died of "heart complications" in 2022. Brittany Sauer weighed more than 430 pounds and had Type 2 diabetes. She was a TikTok influencer and died at the age of 28. Taylor LeJeune, another TikTok influencer who would eat bizarre foods on camera, died of a "presumed heart attack" at age 33.

If you've been paying attention, you'll notice that big corporations have returned to using healthy-sized models in advertising, including most notably the smoke show that is Sydney Sweeney. What happened to all the massive, "plus-sized" models they'd been forcing on us prior to that? Well, they all went away just as soon as GLP-1s made weight loss possible and easy.

That's not a coincidence, of course. Up until the advent of GLP-1s, losing weight required self-discipline, self-control, and personal responsibility. Those three things are anathema to the Left, so instead of pushing people to eat healthy and move more, they said weight loss was "genocide" and "racism." They see their ability to control vast swaths of the population slipping away, and it terrifies them.

Remind me what the definition of fascism is again?
