Biden Failed Americans and Our Allies in Afghanistan

Americans left stranded behind enemy lines. Thirteen of our heroes in uniform killed. An arsenal of weapons bought and paid for by you the American taxpayer now in the hands of Taliban terrorists.

Those are just a few of the devastating realities Joe Biden wants you think of as an “extraordinary success” when it comes to his botched withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

Biden’s desperate attempt to take a victory lap for his Afghanistan disaster is nothing short of disgraceful. His speech last week– one full of lies, finger-pointing and a brazen refusal to shoulder any sort of responsibility – was a fitting end to one of the worst foreign policy failures in U.S. history. Biden is solely responsible for this failure.

Over the past month Americans watched in horror as Biden’s incompetence has cost American lives, weakened America’s security and shattered American credibility on the world stage. Biden’s lies and failed leadership created a situation so dire that even his fellow Democrats and normally friendly media outlets have called him out on it.

Biden promised our Afghanistan exit would be “secure and orderly;” an exit Biden continues to insist went exactly according to plan.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Our withdrawal has been complete chaos. Videos of Afghan civilians desperately clinging to U.S. military jets have become the defining image of our national humiliation.

Biden promised we wouldn’t leave a single American behind in Afghanistan. Instead, he abandonedhundredsof our fellow Americans, leaving them completely at the mercy of the Taliban.

Biden didn’t only betray our citizens – he also betrayed our Afghan allies.

Estimates show Biden left behind at least 100,000 Afghans – many of them translators and intelligence officers – who for 20 years aided servicemen and women in their mission to keep us safe. That figure includes none other than the same interpreter who helped rescue Joe Biden when he and two other Senators were stranded in Afghanistan in 2008.

Biden’s broken promises don’t end there.

Remember, it was only in July that Biden said the rapid collapse of the Afghan government was “highly unlikely.”

That was another lie. Last week the Taliban celebrated their conquest of Kabul along with the rest of the country by holding mock funerals with coffins draped in the American flag.

Almost as bad as Biden’s policy failures is his persistent failure to accept any responsibility for the crisis he created.

Biden continues to lie and say that President Trump tied his hands into a deal with a Taliban. That is a complete farce. After all, this is the same Joe Biden who hasn’t hesitated one minute to reverse any number of his predecessor's policies, whether on energy or immigration.

Worse still is the fact that the man who campaigned as ‘Mister Empathy’ has proven completely incapable of providing comfort to those who are hurting in the wake of this tragedy. Families of our fallen heroes have left their meetings with Biden feeling dejected and disappointed by our Commander-in-Chief’s disregard for their loss.

One would be forgiven for thinking Biden’s serial failures would give him cause for pause and introspection. Instead, this past weekend Biden headed back to Delaware for yet another vacation.

While there, Biden would have done well to remember that the Americans he left behind in Afghanistan don’t have that same luxury.
