  • Citing evidence and saying there is no proof in the same breath is a magnificent skill.

The New Jersey illegal immigrant voting problem continues to throw the media into the trick bag. The years of denying this was a problem have led to being tripped up by the arrival of facts. The latest to be ensnared by reality is the usually reality-averse Molly Jong-Fast, as she attempted to explain what transpired while denying that what was proven to have taken place does not mean that it actually happened…we think…???

This is simply wondrous to behold.

  • But…but…you said it never happens…

Also struggling with the evidence out of New Jersey is Aaron Blake, at CNN. He sees the blatant proof of illegals on the voting rolls in that state and felt the need to recalibrate the facts, supposedly for our benefit.


Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – USA TODAY

  • All we can really say is, what the hell…???

We are not too sure how one makes this leap of illogic unless you sit down at your word generator with the sheer intent of finding a racial component, and then launch into the wildest connection to be made. 

At USA Today, sports columnist Nancy Armour wants to take on the subject of WNBA’s Caitlin Clark being the target of aggressive physical play. Armour looks at Clark’s frequent appeals to the referees for more fouls to be called, and she arrives at a conclusion that can only be described as bat guano lunacy: This desire for fouls to be called on Clark harkens back to a lynching that took place in the 1950s.

  • It shouldn’t need reminding this country has an awful history of black people being harmed, even killed, in the name of “defending” white women. The WNBA's All-Star Game this weekend is in Chicago, Emmett Till's hometown, and a local art gallery is currently hosting an exhibit imagining his life if he hadn't been lynched. 

[We’ll give you a moment to fully absorb this, as it defies registering in the mind of sane individuals.]

She compounded things by saying “It seems there is a white nationalist element to Clark’s fandom.” Just…amazing.

After receiving a high level of justified blowback for this stunted opinion, Armour issued a statement and at least partially walked back her commentary (her column sports an editorial update). Then she did the distinctly un-brave thing and limited the interactions on her social media.

  • It’s like these reporters are unaware of who they are talking to.

It is not too frequent that we here at RFTH cover sports journalism, and less so regarding women’s basketball, so to have two WNBA entries in the same piece is indeed rare!

Caitlin Clark’s teammate in Indianapolis, Sophie Cunningham, has become one of the brighter stars of the league. She is brash, outspoken, and fun-loving, and entirely unapologetic about just about anything. So when she came out in an interview with firm positions against trans athletes invading the women’s sports environments, this was not exactly a shock to see.

In a pregame interview, Sophie was badgered by reporters, expecting her to answer for her supposedly disapproved positions, and she was not the least bit shaky in explaining herself to the journos who sounded like they expected her to answer to them for her unacceptable stance on the matter.


Blue-anon – THE ATLANTIC

  • Wasn’t he just fretting over the communists taking over the Democratic Party?

It was but three weeks ago that Jonathan Chait was bemoaning the fact that socialists were infecting the Democrats. That was not a passing mention either, but a full-fledged concern. He went so far as to assert that it was going to lead to communist policies. He sounded - dare we say it - almost sane and lucid.

But, alas, this is Chait we are talking about; that clear-headed thinking was sure to be a passing phase.

So here he is, hot off the concern of fascist takeovers in that party, now turning to a jackboot mentality, proposing that the Senate should be abolished, all for the sake of saving democracy. I know it is pedantic to inform him that we are a federalist republic and not a true democracy, but he seems to need that civics lesson.
