Why Are There Black Marxist Leftists?

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

“The white liberal is the worst enemy to America and the worst enemy to the Black man.”

“The white liberals are foxes… The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the ‘smiling’ fox.” - Malcolm X

It is almost that time again, yes, Black History Month, and recently, before the winter storm hit Texas, I was doing a nice jog, and this question came to mind. First of all, let's have a little political philosophical discussion; we need a good definition of liberal.

Today's leftists are not true liberals, in the vein of classical liberalism as authored by the father of said belief, John Locke. Locke, in 1689, in his Second Treatise on Government, introduced the revolutionary concept of Natural Rights Theory, which today's leftists mock and disregard. Not too long ago, there was a guest commentator on MSNBC, MS Now, or whatever it is, who referred to natural rights theory as extremism.

Just last year, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine asserted that individual rights come from the government, not the Creator God, which is what another Virginian wrote 250 years ago in our Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson studied John Locke and the ideals of natural rights theory, that individual rights, life, liberty, and property (pursuit of happiness), are endowed, naturally, by the Judeo-Christian faith heritage of God, the Creator.

If anything, leftists today are post-modern liberals, but truly, they are Marxist statists (Mark Levin's common description), progressives (the rebranded name for communists), socialists (economic model), or communists (societal model). They certainly are not classical liberals, but they did successfully, and deceptively, hijack the word to become, as Malcom X termed, the "smiling fox." And today's Democratic party, the party of the jackass, is galaxies away from being classical liberals; they are Marxists.

So, as we enter Black History Month 2026, the year of our 250th independence anniversary, why do we have Black Marxist leftists?

When one objectively studies Marx and his Communist Manifesto, one will see everything that has nothing in common with American Blacks. And that can be uncovered through a simple comparison and contrast of two Black men: Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois.

Booker T. Washington is the story of American triumph, and it should be one that we celebrate widely. Here is a young man born into slavery who receives his freedom after the Civil War, and what does he desire? An education. Washington's endeavors should be that of a great Hollywood movie; then again, that place is resoundingly Marxist leftist.

I would recommend that everyone, every American, in the month of February, read Washington's autobiography, "Up From Slavery.” As well, read Washington's collection of essays titled "Character Building.” This man is my ideological mentor and refused to see himself and his people as victims, but instead admonished them to be victors, to cast down their bucket.

Washington was given the incredible task of building the first institution of higher education in the post-Civil War South. He did not quibble, but set off to his task and Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute was the result. He had a three-point philosophy: education, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. Washington enabled the students of Tuskegee to be so self-sufficient that they built up their own institute, including producing some of the best bricks in the South.

A former slave became one of the Country's greatest educators, hosted a President, and was the first Black man to have a meal in the White House with a President. Washington was instrumental in the creation of the Negro Business League and the economic prowess of the growing Black community, namely, the growth of Harlem. Yet, we hear very little about his impeccable life and accomplishments, perhaps because Booker T. Washington is the Father of Black Conservatism...and yes, I have been to Tuskegee, to see his now Tuskegee University, his home, and his final resting place.

Then there is W.E.B. Du Bois, a Black man who was never a slave and was a northern intellectual. There are many who believe that it was DuBois who founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He didn't. The NAACP was founded by four leftists: William English Walling, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villard, and Henry Moskowitz, who elevated DuBois into the leadership of the organization. The NAACP was, and continues to be, a tool of Marxist leftists to agitate in the Black community, yet, not solved any of the economic, educational, and social woes of Blacks. As well, DuBois was an avowed socialist, then Marxist, who dined with Chairman Mao Tse-Tung. DuBois eventually renounced his American citizenship in 1961, the year I was born, and moved to Ghana and joined the Communist party.

Blacks have fallen prey to Marxist leftists because they have seen cultural Marxism as a means to stoke the flames of racial divisiveness since the early 1900s. Let's not forget that the founders of Black Lives Matter, a very corrupt organization, were avowed Marxists, trained by a white Marxist. And when you consider the foundation of the Black community, it has nothing in common with the planks of Marxism or its concepts.

First, the Black community is a faith-oriented community; Karl Marx was an avowed atheist. To see Black pastors supporting leftism is a head scratcher, including a large Black church in Dallas that has a BLM banner proudly waving. The Black community once, as Washington stressed, focused heavily on education. Marx believed in state control of education. How exactly has that worked out in the Black community with these failing public schools and Black kids lagging in math and reading? Yet, leftists, including Black Marxist leftists, refuse to support parental choice in education. And lastly, family, Booker T. Washington was a proud family man, and that was once the cradle of the Black community. Now, thanks to Marxist leftists, the traditional two-parent household in the Black community is failing. Thank Lyndon Johnson and his insidious Great Society social welfare schemes that rewarded Black women with a check for having children out of wedlock.

Malcolm X was right, white Marxist leftists are the smiling foxes who cunningly and deceptively portray the conservatives, true classical liberals, as the wolves. Yet, they still devour Blacks as victims of their deadly ideologies. The so-called Black leaders, such as Dubois, Al Sharpton, the Black females who founded BLM, Ayanna Pressley, Cory Bush, Hakeem Jeffries, Brandon Johnson, and others, are just the new overseers on the white Marxist 21st century economic plantation. Marxist leftists care more about criminal illegal immigrants than they will ever care about the Black community, which is why they are being replaced as a voting electorate by such.

Blacks in New York City who voted for Zohran Mamdani are truly the walking example of what Vladimir Lenin called "useful idiots.” Mamdani, as a Marxist, shares nothing with the Black community, and as a Muslim, comes from a history of a group that enslaved Blacks and sold them. Maybe, just maybe, this Black History Month, the American Black community will wake up, stop being duped as mindless lemmings, and think for themselves, and stop being Marxist leftists.

Steadfast and Loyal.
