OPINION

Greenland? Hmm..

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Let me say up front that I have absolutely no objection to America owning Greenland; it is in a strategic place for the country, and probably not doing Denmark a whole lot of good, unless they really like snow cones there. Of course, America has existed for 250 years without owning Greenland; we could probably survive without it. But I don’t like the way the Chinese are moving into the Atlantic Ocean. Marxism is still a worldwide philosophy, and the Chinese are the biggest threat to everybody’s freedom on this globe right now. So, it might not be a bad idea to have Greenland as part of America’s defense system.

Mr. Trump does seem to be obsessed with the place; I do kind of wish he’d spend a little more time improving things in America, like getting the government out of the economy as much as possible to help it grow and put more money in the people’s pockets. This is an election year, and probably not too many Americans are going to vote for Greenland. They will vote their pocketbooks—most of them always do—and that needs to be a primary concern of Trump and the Republican Party this year. We can’t ignore our interests around the world, for sure. But “America First” means “Americans First.” I hope, after Davos, Mr. Trump will spend more of his time concentrating on getting his own country in shape. If we do get Greenland, but America destroys itself, what good have we done? We can’t eat ice.

Again, I do want to emphasize that I am certainly not in the least objectionable to America controlling, owning, or being a big mover and shaker in Greenland, whatever Mr. Trump can come up with. And my biggest concern is China. Remember, folks, I lived in that place for ten years. If you don’t care about being free, if you don’t mind living among liars, cheats, tyrants, and thieves in power, if you don’t mind keeping your head down and your mouth shut, China is not a bad place to live. I still have many, many good friends in that country, I still teach some adorable and interesting Chinese students English online, and certainly not all the people there are like Mao Zedong and Xi Jinping. Again, it’s actually not a bad place to live now—if you keep your head down, your mouth shut, don’t care about freedom, and avoid the tyrants. Not easy to do for an American over ten years.

The Chinese people, most of them, are cowed. They have no conception of what “democracy” is (they think they do) or what “freedom” is (they think they do). Can you say “brainwashed”? Can you say “American Democratic Party”? Go live in China for ten years, as I did, and you will know exactly what the Democratic Party wants for America. Both the Democrats and the Chinese Communist Party are Marxists. So, they believe and practice the same things.

China, being a Marxist country, still believes in the world revolution, theMarxist utopia where eventually government will disappear, and all men will be “free” and “equal.” Don’t forget that Marx believed that “government” (any and all governments) are tools of the rich to oppress the poor, and are thus due to extinction when pure socialism and communism conquer the world. “It may take 500 years,” one CCP member once told me. Well, I don’t know when it will happen, but I do know when it won’t happen—it won’t happen while Xi Jinping is in power. That man will give up power when he is put in a pine box, and not before. And that’s pretty much the truth for any politician. Marxism is a fantasy, a pipedream, the stupidest unreality a human being has ever concocted. Utter nonsense. It will never happen. The politicians of the world will never let it happen.

But, China is Marxist, and “workers of the world” unite. Xi Jinping would love to turn the Atlantic Ocean into the “West China Sea,” and is already making some moves in that direction. Europe isn’t going to stop him. Only America can. Greenland could be a useful tool.

It would have been nice if the previous generations of American politicians had made friends with Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union, instead of continuing to try to ram NATO down its throat. Now, I don’t trust the Russians any more than I trust the Chinese, or the Democrats, or the Republicans, or any country run by politicians. But “self-interest” and “trust” are not always the same, and actually, sometimes might be opposites. Maybe we ought to ask Vlad to admit Ukraine into NATO. And then invite Russia to join NATO, too. Wouldn’t it be nice to have all those nukes and NATO Russian soldiers on China’s northern border?

And then, while we are at it, ask Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, India, and anybody else who wants protection against China to join NATO. (Can you imagine the size of the cow Xi Jinping would have if Taiwan joined NATO? But surrounding China would be the best thing we could do.) Well, I apologize, that’s a dream as far-fetched as Marxism. I shouldn’t waste your time with it. But, more than once in my Townhall articles, I’ve urged an “EATO” (East Asia Treaty Organization) as a complement to NATO. Unfortunately, nobody listens to my brilliant ideas.

China is the biggest threat we face in the world today, bar none. I care about the USA owning or controlling Greenland only because I fear what China will do in the Atlantic and what Europe won’t do about it.

So, yeah, Mr. Trump, if you can snatch Greenland, more power to you. Just give me the Danish snow cone concession.
