Five Things to Be Thankful for in 2025

Happy Thanksgiving. If you’re reading this, you are either pre-gorging or post-tryptophan coma…or it’s Friday, because who wants to read about the news on Thanksgiving? I hope it was a good one.

Like last year, I wanted to take today’s column to look back at the year that has been (so far) and write a little about what I’m thankful for. With that in mind, here are the top 5 from the news (because, obviously, I’m most thankful for my family and friends – I’m not a joyless leftist miserable pile of garbage, after all).

First: Even though it didn’t happen this year, I remain (and will remain) grateful for the results of the election just over a year ago. That may seem like a cop-out, but there was so much joy that it couldn’t possibly be contained by one calendar year. Plus, the inauguration was this year, so it’s valid.

With that in mind, I will fold in the fact that Kamala Harris is a private citizen. Imagine what the world would be like were she running around, ready to surrender to our enemies and welcome even more of the third world into the country in the left’s idiotic game of “Red Rover.” How glorious is it to know the border is sealed? It’s right up there with Kamala’s miserable book tour where she’s burning every bridge she’s ever crossed to make a few bucks. It’s funny to watch someone destroy their political career while thinking they’re helping their brand. It couldn’t happen to a nicer, more deserving person.

Second: ICE and the Border Patrol. It’s a thankless job, and was never a flashpoint before Democrats invited every pit around the world to release their version of Hunter Biden from their prisons and send them here, but now it is not only the most important gig in government, it is a dangerous one. It’s not that Democrats in Congress and the media want these agents dead, it’s that they don’t care either way. It’s also that they know they have a portion of their base who will try to kill them, but are too afraid to say they shouldn’t because Democrats are afraid their goon squad will turn on them.

Still, these brave men and women serve to protect our country from the invasion. They show up to work knowing Democrats are targeting them. They show up knowing Democrats might ram them with their cars. They show up knowing those bastards will prosecute them in a heartbeat should they even accidentally cross a line, even though they regularly drop the charges against the left-wingers actively trying to “harm” them. We are all thankful they show up.

Third: The National Guard. After the events in Washington, DC, yesterday, the rhetoric of the left trying to inspire violence with a plausibly deniable distance between the wink and nod of a “suggestion,” the fate of two National Guard members remains in limbo as of this moment. But those Democrats know what they did. And we know too.

I’ll stop there with this one, lest I fill this column with expletives about those Democrats… Four: The upcoming 250th birthday of America. I know, it isn’t till next year, but it has already started and needs to be a continuous celebration. Our Founding Fathers did something extraordinary and it deserves a year of praise. Hell, it deserves constant praise.

Far too many people born in this country take it for granted or have no idea that the country is special, let alone why. This is our chance to reach some of them. Sure, many will not care, but some will. That we can’t save everyone doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to save anyone.

Five: Donald Trump. Never before has one man’s mere existence led to so many people having breakdowns and freakouts. No one has ever been able to manipulate the opposition political party into taking wildly unpopular positions by simply coming out in favor of the obvious and wildly popular side. It’s like convincing someone to break their own nose by telling them you simply don’t believe they could punch themselves in the face hard enough…and they do it.

The power of “being Trump” is almost greater than the presidency itself and it demonstrates just how dangerous and deranged the left has become. No other Republican would have been able to face this insanity and not try to quell it; try to compromise with it to be “loved,” or at least “liked,” by the left-wing establishment. Donald Trump doesn’t care. The push to “sell out” or to “compromise” to get along breaks most politicians at some point; Trump has not. I’m very thankful for that.

There is a lot to be concerned about this Thanksgiving – special elections, the midterms, Democrats in general – but the scales are tipped in our direction right now. For that, we should all be thankful. Now go shovel some more food down your throat and go Lions!
