When Children Become the Lab Rats

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

The United Kingdom is set to begin injecting children—some as young as ten years old—with puberty-blocking drugs in what the Daily Mail calls the first NHS-backed clinical experiment of its kind. Two hundred twenty-six children, who “believe” they are transgender, will be used to test whether the drugs could be “safely” administered in the future. Children who have not yet reached adolescence, do not understand sexuality, cannot legally consent to anything meaningful, and are nowhere near neurological maturity—will be chemically frozen in time so adults can experiment on their bodies like lab rats on a table.

Beege Welborn, writing at Hot Air, asks the only moral question left standing:

“How does the state allow it, knowing what we know?” How indeed.

We know these drugs sterilize.

We know they cause irreversible bone density loss.

We know they alter brain development.

We know they increase depression and suicidal ideation.

We know they do not resolve gender dysphoria long-term and most children would naturally desist if not interfered with.

We know because we already ran this experiment.

It was called the Tavistock Clinic, the UK’s gender identity

facility that was shut down because its practices were

considered abusive, dangerous, and medically fraudulent.

Instead of learning from the wreckage, they’re trying again.

Why?

Because ideology—not science, not medicine, not compassion—is now the ruling authority over children’s bodies.

The state has decided that children belong to it.

And now they are willing to cut them, drug them, sterilize them, and sacrifice them on the altar of political identity and academic curiosity.

We used to say, “Never again,” referring to the horrors of unethical medical experimentation: Tuskegee, Mengele, Soviet psychiatric tortures. We used to hold moral clarity that children are not testing grounds. Vulnerable human beings deserve protection, not exploitation. That medicine begins with First, do no harm.

But in 2025, we have returned to barbarism. And we call it progress.

Yet, if you want to understand how we got here, you need only look at what’s happening simultaneously in America’s school system—because the second headline in this stack exposes the cultural architecture that is producing this madness.

The New York Times writes: “America’s Children Are Unwell. Are Schools Part of the Problem?”

Their answer, though softened, is a resounding yes. Our children are drowning—emotionally, academically, psychologically. Anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, identity confusion, self-harm… all skyrocketing. Why?

Because children are being fed a worldview that denies reality, denies purpose, denies identity, denies God, denies design. They are being crushed under academic pressure, medicated into numbness, and handed a worldview that tells them nothing is true and they themselves are malleable clay to be reshaped endlessly into whatever earns approval.

We have replaced education with social engineering.

We have replaced learning with diagnosis.

We have replaced discipline with pharmaceuticals.

We have replaced moral formation with moral disintegration.

And now, schools—rather than admitting failure—tell parents that the answer is more therapy, more labels, more drugs, more surgical solutions.

Because if you can convince a ten-year-old they were “born in the wrong body,” you can justify anything.

Which leads to the third headline: Homeschooling is exploding.

And why wouldn’t it be?

Parents are finally waking up to the catastrophic reality that the system they trusted to educate their children has instead attempted to own them. The data is astonishing: homeschooling has grown 5.4% nationwide this school year—nearly triple pre-pandemic growth—with many states seeing double-digit spikes and record-breaking enrollment.

As Angela Watson of Johns Hopkins University says, “This isn’t a pandemic hangover; it’s a fundamental shift in how American families are thinking about education.”

Yes—it is a revolt.

A peaceful revolution.

A rescue mission.

Parents are saying:

You will not indoctrinate my child.

You will not medicate my child to force conformity.

You will not tell my daughter she is a boy.

You will not sterilize my ten-year-old in the name of science.

You will not own what God gave to me to protect.

We have reached a turning point.

Either we reclaim children from the state, or the state will

continue to claim them as property.

Either parents rise and steward the next generation, or children will be consumed by the machinery of ideology.

Let’s be perfectly clear: A society that experiments on children is not enlightened.

It is not compassionate.

It is not progressive.

It is lost.

It is depraved.

And it is racing toward judgment.

Civilizations do not survive when they destroy their young. Every empire that devours its children dies in the dustbin of history.

So the question returns:

How do we live?

We live by telling the truth even when it costs.

We live by protecting children even when the world calls us extremists.

We live by refusing to participate in the lie.

We live by raising our children ourselves—at home, in church, in community, in truth.

We live by teaching them that their identity is not self-constructed but God-given.

We live not in fear, but in courage.

Because the battle is not for politics—it is for souls.

This is not about left or right.

This is about right or wrong.

And history will ask what we did.

Our answer must be: Everything we could.
