One of the saddest things to come out of the questions surrounding the assassination of Charlie Kirk is the allegation that his friend and Chief of Staff, Mikey McCoy, was somehow behaving suspiciously and, by implication, was involved in Charlie’s death. Such allegations are quite ridiculous, and frankly hurtful.
The conspiracy argument essentially says that Mikey McCoy, TPUSA Chief of Staff, was acting suspiciously in the immediate aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s killing and was amongst the calmest of people to leave the scene immediately after the murder, all the while walking slowly and with a phone to his ear, ostensibly telling whomever he was calling that the job was done.
A conspiracy would have to go something like this:
“Hey, Mikey, we know you are super busy traveling with Charlie and working alongside him, so before he hears about this, let’s make it quick. At UVU, though, there will be thousands of people watching and at least dozens of people making videos, but we need you to be the one to confirm that Charlie actually got hit and then relay that with your phone. You know, just in case we don’t somehow see our dirty work through the people we have in the crowd, the innocents who can instantly put up video, or through the scope. Who needs TTPs when we have you?!
Also, we need to be close to Charlie…like real close, as in almost next to him. Don’t worry, there’s no way you could possibly be hit by a bullet that deflects or strays due to unexpected wind or unexpected movement by the shooter. Also, that scope I mentioned always has a chance of being defective. Remember, we need YOU to tell us what happened because no one else can in this internet stone age. And guess what, like Charlie, you too will be on camera, so you will achieve lifelong fame and scrutiny. Whatta ya say, man?”

Mikey would have to say, “That’s great, guys…I’m glad to risk my own life to be a part of a conspiracy. Thank God there’s no one involved where there are text messages or DNA…at least I hope.”
Does anyone else see how utterly ridiculous such a plot would have to be? Such a theory requires the suspension of reality. Accusing Mikey McCoy of this is the ultimate form of gaslighting and slander while taking our focus away from the spiritual battle we are in.
There is confusion in the ranks at this point, and the forces that killed Charlie Kirk were demonic, despite the Lord knowing his length of days. There is a young man in prison who, without question, deserves a fair trial as well as the strongest earthly punishment in a guilty verdict; in this case, death. We must render unto Caesar.
However, this young man, like all of us, has limited days on earth and desperately needs to repent and follow Jesus Christ before he meets his Maker.
We should ask questions about Charlie’s death; in many ways, that is what Charlie Kirk was about. But more than anything, Charlie pointed people to Jesus, as seen in this video (which also makes very good points about deducing evidence).
As far as people being calm in the face of the storm, those are the type of people you want. One of the other allegations rendered is that TPUSA is like a military operation. If it is, thank God. The military teaches people to be calm when things “hit the fan.”
In the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, one of my commanding officers who led the military volunteers at the World Trade Center had his security clearance suspended. Some people were worried this individual could have been involved in the attack, as it was unnerving to them that the officer was so calm in the midst of everyone else panicking. This individual got his security clearance back and continued to serve (including in Afghanistan) and retire, but not until after years of administrative hearings, tens of thousands of dollars spent, and a divorce. Real pain is caused by implicating people.
One of the great things about Charlie Kirk was his ability to size people up, and while none of us are perfect in that regard, he would not put someone he could not fully trust in such a position; the very person he said to call his wife should anything ever happen. This Mikey McCoy did, and Mikey did his duty well.
And just in case it is asked, this article was in no way discussed with TPUSA beforehand, lest I, too, be a part of the ridiculous, alleged conspiracy.
