Kamala, AOC, and Mamdani: On the Edge of Insanity

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Many politicians give me a headache, but I can accept them as legitimate. John McCain was one. Adam Schiff is another. I can’t stand their politics but at least they are not stupid. The last few years have introduced a new class of politicians who are dumb as a rock.

Barack Obama, a president who hates America. Joe Biden, who was out to lunch for the four years of his presidency. And now a fresh slate right out of central casting: Kamala Harris, AOC, and Zohran Mamdani. They represent an insult to the American electorate. How can we even consider them for high office?

Let’s begin with Harris. If a Hollywood producer wanted to do a parody of presidential elections, he could find no better role model than Kamala Harris. With her word salads and incessant cackling, the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee for president was a public fool and the least popular vice president in history. Whenever Kamala opens her mouth, she sounds like an imbecile. “I genuinely think the woman is an idiot,” said British journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer. “The mad hysterical laughing at everything, the word salad, the absolute zero achievement on anything.”

“Kamala Harris cannot do much of anything but inappropriately laugh uproariously,” wrote Patricia McCarthy at American Thinker. “She would not or could not be elected as dogcatcher in any small town. She has no business being anywhere near a federal government job, let alone vice-president or, God help us, president.”

Whenever I try to imagine Kamala sitting in the Oval Office, smoke comes out of my ears. “This woman would be in charge of the most powerful nuclear arsenal on earth,” said Douglas Murray. “The image of her cackling manically while saying nonsense, with her finger on the nuclear button, is just too much.”

Thankfully, she didn’t make it. But it was much too close for comfort. A vicious, conniving, immoral, unintelligent, unpopular, third-rate politician with extreme radical views came within a hair’s breadth of the presidency. If a phony like Harris can become president, anyone—even my dog—can attain high office. “In a functioning meritocracy,” said Tucker Carlson, “Kamala Harris would be a C-list massage therapist working out of a strip mall. Yet somehow she became our vice president. How’d that happen?”

Sadly, Kamala is not the worst of them. The precedent has been established and now we have to live with the result: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I was astonished to read that prominent pollsters Nate Silver and Galen Druke have identified AOC as the likely Democratic Party presidential candidate in 2028. A Yale University poll found that AOC boasts the single highest net favorability rating—62%—of all the Democrat potential 2028 presidential candidates.

How is that even remotely possible? It is possible because of the precedent set by Kamala Harris. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fits the mold. AOC is an ignorant neophyte with no qualifications, a 35-year-old bartender from the Bronx. Some people would say that AOC makes Kamala look smart.

“AOC is irrepressibly stupid,” said Ben Shapiro, reflecting on her support of ultra-left-wing policies. Border Czar Tom Homan called AOC “the dumbest congresswoman ever elected. She

proves that every day. What I find disturbing is that any member of Congress wants to educate people on how they can evade law enforcement.”

“Bless her heart, but you really can’t be this stupid by accident,” Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper said about AOC after she suggested that Congress should take action to discipline the Supreme Court for decisions she doesn’t like. “She is so stupid, it is stunning,” agreed Judge Jeanine Pirro when AOC blamed police for the rise in New York subway crime.

“You expect stupid people to say stupid things,” said American Majority founder Ned Ryun, “and AOC never disappoints.” Here are a few of AOC’s classic comments:

“We need to invent technology that has never even been invented yet.”

“Capitalism has not always existed in the world and will not always exist in the world.”

“If people were actually concerned about undocumented people, the clear solution would be to offer documentation. It’s safer and secure for everyone.”

And my personal favorite:

“Under capitalism, man oppresses man. Under socialism, it’s the other way around.”

Yet AOC has name recognition. “The media is kind of obsessed with her,” said Galen Druke, “and they’re going to follow her every move.” Thanks to Kamala, who knows what is possible?

Which brings us to perhaps the most frightening of them all: New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. In the wake of the destruction caused by mayors De Blasio and Adams, New York—the bulwark of capitalism—cannot afford an inexperienced, 33-year-old communist fool like Mamdani. He is truly the candidate from hell. “It appears that NYC is electing to commit suicide by mayor,” said Jim Bianco, president of Bianco Research.

Mamdani has advocated defunding the police, calling them “racist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety.” He wants to replace the cops with “mental health care teams.” He wants a $30 minimum wage, substantial tax increases on corporations, free bus service, abolishing prisons, universal child care, city-run grocery stores, and a freeze on rent increases for the city’s one million rent-regulated apartments. He supports universal health care, immigrants' rights, tuition-free higher education, and getting rid of mandatory jail time for many crimes.

Fox News host Sean Hannity says there will be a "mass exodus"if Mamdani is elected, warning that many New York companies will choose to relocate. Real estate experts anticipate that the Big Apple could see an outward migration of residents along with proposed rent freezes that would bring New York’s housing market to a halt. “You will have vacant, deteriorated buildings, abandoned buildings, much like the Bronx had in the ’70s and ’80s,” said Kenny Burgos, CEO of the New York Housing Association.

In the city that has the most Jewish residents outside of Tel Aviv, Mandani is openly anti-Semitic. He has refused to disavow the phrase “globalize the intifada,” a slogan that is a call to violence against Jews. He supports an economic boycott of Israel and has promised that if Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, visited New York City he would have him arrested for war crimes.

“This is a very sad day for New York and America,” said Alan Dershowitz. “New York may be in the process of electing the most anti-Semitic mayor in the history of the western world. What he is today is less than 10% of what he really is. If he gets elected mayor, the real thug will come out.”

“It's just so stupid, those ideas,” said John Stossel. “It’s not like this hasn’t been tried. We’ve seen the failures. The idea that the central planners can do better is just nonsense.”

Mamdani’s infantile response to critics: If it doesn’t work, “C’est la vie, then the idea was wrong.” Despite his overtly stupid platform, Mamdani won the Democratic primary and is projected as the winner in November. Good luck to New York City.

Why do we have inept politicians like Kamala, AOC, and Mamdani? “America has plenty of problems and faces many challenges,” says Kurt Schlichter at Townhall, “but none is more daunting than the fact that many of our fellow citizens are freaking idiots. Perhaps, besides checking voter ID, we should also test voter IQ.”
