Some Simple Truths About Slavery

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

If you’ve ever known anyone who has cheated on someone and got caught, and they’re still with that person, you can see them clench their rear ends when the subject of infidelity comes up when the person they cheated on is in the room. That “Oh, sh*t” moment of realizing that can of worms could be reopened and the rest of the night/weekend is on the verge of being ruined. They deserve it, obviously, they cheated. And they will do anything to distract from the subject as quickly as possible. That is how Democrats are when the issues of slavery, racism and general discrimination comes up in any way that is honest and real.

This week, CNN has Jillian Michaels on their worthless panel show seemingly designed to create viral clips of Scott Jennings barely containing his contempt for everyone else, especially vapid and vacant-eyed host Abby Phillip, behind a smirk holding in a string of laughter and obscenities.

Michaels did something rare, if not unheard of, for cable news these days: she prepared. It confused all the liberals, who’d been railing against the Trump administration for seeking to shave off much of the anti-American hatred left-wingers had curated into the exhibits over the years. “He’s trying to white-wash history, gloss over the horrors of slavery!” was the gist of their whining.

Michaels rightly pointed out that slavery does not encapsulate the American story. It is a part of it, a small part of it, but that’s it. Yet, as she demonstrated, the left has made it and a general “white people bad” attitude the focus of much of the displays at the Smithsonian, no matter the topic.

Dishonest Democrats on the show immediately clutched their pearls and cried foul. Democrat Congressman Ritchie Torres wrote, “When I appeared on CNN, I did not, in my wildest dreams, expect to witness a panelist denying or downplaying the white supremacy at the heart of American slavery.”

Jillian did nothing of the sort, of course, but lying allows Torres to do what every Democrat does on the issue: avoid reality.

What is the reality of slavery? Well…

Slavery was not invented by white people, but it was abolished by them. As Democrats demonize “white Christian males,” they were the leading force not only in this country, but on the planet, in ending slavery.

Slavery started in Africa, north Africa and the Middle East, where civilization started, and there weren’t any white people around at the time. In sub-Saharan Africa, where what slaves who were shipped to the Americas (not just the US) originated, black tribes ran the trade on the continent. They’d practiced slavery against other African tribes for centuries, all whitey did was add transit to it.

In the United States, Democrats were the slave owners. While very few Americans actually owned slaves, about 2 percent (at the most), all of them were Democrats. When the Civil War ended slavery, it was Democrats who obstructed and ended reconstruction that sought to remove obstacles for black Americans to be fully integrated into American society.

It was Democrats who founded the Ku Klux Klan, created Jim Crow laws, lynched, and enforced segregation. They blocked every attempt at civil rights legislation for a century, including Lyndon Johnson as Senate Majority Leader watering down the Civil Rights Act of 1957 to the point that it was essentially worthless to deny President Dwight Eisenhower and Republicans the victory.

The popular lie now with Democrats, in an attempt to cover their history of on the issue, is to claim the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as their own, but it would not have passed without Republican votes. A higher percentage of Republicans voted for it than Democrats, with most opposition to it from conservatives coming under the argument that it wasn’t necessary – the Constitution already mandated equal treatment under law.

Democrats insist this and Richard Nixon’s “southern strategy” caused an exodus of racists from their party to the GOP, but this is another lie. In “protest” to the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by LBJ, exactly 2 Democrats switched parties – 2. That’s it. And the south, always the base of operations for racist Democrats, did not switch to a stronghold for Republicans until 1994. It took Bill Clinton (a southerner) and his push to take over the nation’s health care system to lose the south, it had nothing to do with race.

Once segregation was legally eliminated, against the will of Democrats (every single politician who stood in a school house doorway to block black students from entering was a Democrat and stayed one till the day they died), the party shifted its rhetoric on race…but not its goals.

What was once a push for segregation out of hatred became a push of segregation out of tolerance and diversity. On race, Democrats changed their tactics, but never their objective.

Race for racists is a means of control, a way to manipulate groups of people by convincing various groups that other groups are out to get them/looking to oppress or deny them something, and the true racist presents themselves as the guardian against this evil objective. No problem is ever solved, only pushed off, but always lurking. The party “fighting for our community” must always be in power, lest the forces who hate you come in and…well, they don’t ever really say.

That’s how people in Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, DC, Philadelphia, etc., can watch their cities go to hell and continually elect people from the party who destroyed them. “Republicans hate you” and “It would be worse if you voted for the GOP” is the unspoken mantra of generations of race-based brainwashing. Exactly how it could be worse when large swaths of these cities are just this side of third world pits is a mystery, as the argument is now second nature to the politicians, community leaders and even pastors and any attempt to question it is met with cries of “selling out” and “acting white.”

If Republicans really did want to do as much damage to black people as Democrats claim, I’m not sure what they would have done different from what Democrats have done my whole life.

It’s not like the GOP could put more Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in majority black areas to exterminate a higher percentage of black babies. They couldn’t refuse to prosecute even more crimes than Democrat district attorneys already do to put more violent criminals back on the streets. And the only way to make the Democrat-controlled public education system in these areas worse would involve bombing them from the air. Actually, no, it wouldn’t, because aerial bombing would at least stop the damage Democrats and their teacher’s union allies have been doing for more than 60 years.

There is literally nothing Democrats have done that has actually improved the lives of people they claim to be the guardians of. It’s all about power, theirs, and control, of others. And race is the easiest, and most personal, method of maintaining both power and control. People in an emotional state are easy to manipulate because emotion overrides logic every single time.

That’s why Torres didn’t address anything Jillian Michaels said, he simply lied about it in order to change the focus and get away from the inconvenient truths of slavery and race and how the Democratic Party uses both in truly evil ways. Always have, always will. It’s easier than trying to win votes on the ideas of open borders and child genital mutilation.

By the way, another huge reason for slavery’s fall? Capitalism. It is the pathway for a better life for everyone who accepts that truth and works within it, which is why rich Democrats (guess how they made their money) hate that too. But that discussion is for another time.
