Israel comes to the aid of a desperate Syrian minority. And the world says nothing.
Bibi Netanyahu had a court date in Tel Aviv. The American ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, came to show his support for the prime minister and personal friend of the U.S. president. During the trial, Bibi excused himself due to some unexpected urgent military matters. I always liked when my parents sent a letter to the teacher saying that I needed to leave school early that day.
The urgent matter was attacks against the Druze in Syria. The Druze live in the part of Syria that abuts Israel’s Golan. The border fence effectively splits the 300,000 Druze in Syria and the 150,000 in Israel. There are many families with members on either side of the border. The Israeli Druze serve in the IDF and are considered patriotic members of the Israeli mosaic. So when al-Julani’s goons came to a Druze town and began to attack and kill Druze men, women, and children, Israel did not wait. Warplanes destroyed Syrian armor and when the attacks did not stop, Israel attacked the presidential palace and ministry of defense in Damascus. Terrible images came out of Syria of a massacre at a local hospital. An 80-year-old elder had his mustache cut off, and his fate is currently not clear. An entire family was killed in their home. The world said nothing as the victims were not enemies of the Jews.
There is a lot going on with the recent actions in Syria. The first is the government’s commitment to the Druze community in Israel. Both the political echelon and the heads of the military made it clear that they would not let al-Julani’s terrorists attack Druze towns. This is an important point: the state of Israel made a No. 1 priority protecting a non-Jewish minority in a different country. Israel could have said that the events in Syria are not its problem and then dealt with Druze griping at home. Instead, Bibi, his defense minister and the chief of the IDF made it their business to hit the Syrians hard. They begged Israeli Druze not to cross over into Syria. They did so anyway and their return was a headache as security forces had to make sure that no bad guys came back over with them. Israel made it a point to support the Druze whose religion is an offshoot of Islam. Everything that happened up north is a complete affront to the “Jews do genocide” and “apartheid” lies. Israel intervened in a foreign country in favor of an endangered minority who have many family members in Israel. There were no Jews in Syria who were in mortal danger, and the actions involved a good deal of IDF and IAF activity. Israel never bombed Syria’s ministry of defense for any of its support for terror against Jews; when the threats to stop the violence against the Druze were ignored, the bombs began to fall in Damascus. As in Iran, the local broadcasters heard the explosions and ran for their lives.
The Druze area in Syria could be an important strategic buffer for Israel. If the Druze have their autonomy and have Israel as an insurance against Sunni terrorists masquerading as Syrian regular soldiers, the situation could be good for both the Druze and Israel. For Israel, the addition of the Syrian Golan and the existence of an Israel-friendly Druze buffer zone would be a great level of defense for the northern part of the country. Is Syria joining the Abraham Accords dead? No idea.

So Israel saved a minority. Israel helped non-Jews in danger. Where is the UN? EU? Goodie goodies who seem to support every unfortunate who isn’t Jewish? Their silence is deafening because what Israel did over Syria destroys their entire narrative. For the talking bobble heads, Israel = Jews. The ones who live there: Jews. The ones who benefit from Israel over others: Jews. Now, Israel goes full Rambo not for Jews but for an offshoot Muslim minority. And why? Because it was the right thing to do. Yes, Israel gains goodwill with Druze on either side of the Golan border. But the Druze were outgunned and looking down the barrel of a slaughter. And Israel whacked the Syrian army that today is populated with Sunni terrorists in place of the Alawite soldiers of Assad. Why would the ISIS and al-Qaeda guys in army fatigues go after the Druze, who seem like such nice people? The answer everywhere is that Muslims tolerate nobody.
In Europe, emboldened Muslims will tell locals not to walk their dogs in their neighborhoods. They will tell women to cover themselves, even if these women are Christians and have no relationship whatsoever with them. They will prevent alcohol from being moved through their areas. Islam as a religion and political movement does not favor compromise with or respect for other religions and peoples. Whereas the UAE shows incredible tolerance for other faiths, those associated with Iran, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood express a chauvinism that is not Kumbaya. They want to take it all, they respect no alternative religion or way of life. One can find many videos online of alien Muslims harassing European women on the street, on buses, and on trains. There is no respect there. There is no consideration or thought that the host culture, while different, is worthy of respect. Just opening X now revealed Muslim youths attacking German boys at a mall in Germany for no particular reason. So on that matter, they are equal opportunity haters: they hate the Jews, Christians, Druze, other Muslims who don’t think like them (Sunni vs. Shia), etc. In the mind of the Syrian terrorists parading in army clothes, the Druze need to be dealt with like the Alawites a few months ago.
So we live in a very confusing age. There are times when one has to listen to women as per Me Too; there are other times when women are completely ignored or blamed for the horrors they experienced. There are good genocides that you don’t discuss and bad genocides that you have to protest for endless months on the university green. How can a poor person figure out when to be on which side? Here is a simple cheat sheet: if the event makes the Jews look good, just look the other way. If it makes the Jews look bad, pile on. Israeli women violated and murdered. Nothing. Palestinians being bombed in a war to get rid of Hamas: Genocide! Israel saves Druze in Syria from ISIS and al-Qaeda al-Julani associates: not a word about genocide as Israel would look good. The left either went quiet on Iran or came out on the side of the mullahs.
Jew hatred is the guiding principle of the left. The fact that Israel saved a religious minority from a murderous government gets the Jews no credit points. Israel made a smart move to strengthen an important minority group and help stabilize its northern border. Israel is thinking about its future and not the headlines in a hateful Western press.
