Legalized Press-titution (curtailed) – NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO / PUBLIC BROADCASTING SERVICE

  • Did we ever actually believe this would come to fruition someday?!

Late yesterday, the latest version of the rescission package passed the Senate with a 51-49 vote, and with it came the conclusion of federal funding for public broadcasting. (We can hear the corks popping at the Media Research Center right now.) This has been bandied about as a prospect for generations, and to see this finally become a reality is almost surreal. Now, technically, it is not fully official, as the House still has to vote on the amended bill, but they have already passed this with the cuts in place, so this appears all but a done deal.

Reporting on the Mirror – CBS NEWS

  • This might be the most advanced case of “Main Character Syndrome” seen this year!

We just passed the one-year anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Trump in Pennsylvania. CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane was on location that Saturday, and he was speaking with Chuck Todd about the severe tragedy that day and the lasting effects the episode carried.

For him.

Yes, seriously – MacFarlane said he suffered PTSD from that day. He described the horror that HE experienced, and as he clarifies, it was not a result of the shooting that he witnessed, but because of the reaction from the audience, whom he says, “You could see it in their eyes – they were coming for us! And if he didn’t jump up with his fist, they were coming to kill us!”

And in reaction to this completely unhinged, divorced-from-reality, bat-crap crazy rendition of things, Chuck Todd turned his head and replied, “I know.”

What – the – hell…?!

Both Kinds of Standards – THE NEW YORK TIMES

  • Written from the fainting couch, no doubt.

Peter Baker comes out with a stinging indictment of the language used by President Trump. That the sting is lower in intensity than that of a mosquito is one thing, but it is the deflecting obliviousness from Mr. Baker that is notable.

He is very bothered by the fact that Trump has been willing to toss around the word “evil” to describe various targets.

Of course, you see where Baker is bothered, as included in the list was journalists; you know, those people who have had no qualms in calling Trump a fascist, Nazi, Hitler, murderer, racist, sexist, and any other description that essentially to could be boiled down to the very same four letter label he is so upset about.

News Avoidance Syndrome – ASSOCIATED PRESS

  • Are you sure there was not another detail in this story you may have glossed over?

The AP has a report about the fact that Medicaid has turned over its records to ICE in order to track down illegal immigrants in the countryside. The news syndicate seems very bothered by the fact that private records of citizens held by a government agency will now be turned over and made available…to another government agency.

What the journalists appear to be far less bothered about is the concept of illegal immigrants being on Medicaid, given the fact that they are not permitted into the program, and that the press has insisted that no illegals are in the program.

Race to the Bottom – COMEDY CENTRAL

  • Jordan makes it sound like no Democrats had even noticed Obama’s race before.

Think back to the Obama years in this country, where he was essentially shielded by his race, as that was always invoked any time a criticism of a policy or action was made. We were told incessantly that America would be ushered into a post-racial era, and then, immediately, the press worked to make just about any story concerning Obama about race (if it was positive for him) or racism (if it was negative).

But wait, nope – we have that all backwards.

Over at “The Daily Show,” rotating host Jordan Klepper was speaking to an author with a book that had something to do with race, in some fashion. Klepper reached back to the Obama years and, in speaking to the writer, made this pronouncement that received no common-sense pushback: The conservatives were the ones who noticed Obama was a black man:

“I feel like he had an entire media ecosystem on the right that was making Barack Obama the black president. He didn't bring up identity, and identity was somewhat thrust on him as a weapon.”

What is amusing is that Klepper actually thinks this is serious commentary, while he is on a comedy-centric cable channel.
