Infighting is Not Good, But Not Unexpected, Either

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

The fight that has broken out between Donald Trump and Elon Musk certainly isn’t good for the Republican Party or the country in general. America doesn’t need this. The Democrats, the Party of Pure Evil, will gleefully make as much political capital out of this as they can, and anything that helps the Democrats is bad for the nation. Why Republicans continue to get in a circle and shoot at each other is totally beyond me. They are called the “Stupid Party” for a reason.

Elon claims that Mr. Trump is on the Epstein files list and that is the reason they haven’t been released. Indeed, I have wondered why that list is still hidden, but I lean against the idea that Trump’s name is on it. If it were, I have little doubt that the Democrats, at some point in the past several years and without incriminating anybody important in their party, would have produced at least part of the list with Trump’s name on it. But I don’t know who is on that list, and frankly, given the current moral condition of America, I wouldn’t be surprised at any name there. I do know my name isn’t on it. Well, no, I don’t know that, either; I do know my name shouldn’t be on it, but I wouldn’t put it past the Democrats to have snuck every Townhall and other conservative writer onto that list. So, we’ll just have to wait and see—if the list is EVER released—whose name is really on it.

Elon is upset because he feels like he and his group of DOGE Americans worked their tails off to try to expose as much waste, fraud, and abuse in government as they could. He further believes that Mr. Trump and the Republican Congress have, in effect, stabbed him in the back and undervalued his efforts by not enacting the budget cuts, the waste, fraud, and abuse that indeed should be removed by the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” “If America goes broke,” Musk said, “nothing else matters,” and he is exactly right about that. I don’t know all that’s in the BBB (I believe that the word “big” should NEVER be associated with government, especially a government budget). Still, enough information has leaked to give Elon’s complaint some credibility. Rand Paul doesn’t like the bill, either, but said his goal wasn’t to stop it, but to “make it better.” The White House, in what I thought was a very low blow, claims that Elon, in DOGE, focused on what he could do for his company. The whole thing stinks. Our government stinks.

As with most Congressional budgets, at least those from Republican Presidents, there are some good things in the BBB and some bad things. Pork is always bad; it’s a primary reason the government is $38 trillion in debt. And all of it should be eliminated from the bill. But this bill may be the best we can get at the moment. We’ll see if the Senate can indeed “make it better.”

Elon, you are taking on a deeply entrenched system in Washington, D.C., that has been built over decades and won’t be changed overnight. I support efforts to reduce government waste and abuse, and it’s important that all elected leaders continue to push for meaningful reforms. The challenges are significant, but progress can be made with persistence and commitment from all sides. Voters have an important role in holding their representatives accountable to ensure the government works better for the American people.

I like what Elon Musk has said and done, but I don’t think Elon Musk is the answer to America’s problems. Nor do I think Donald Trump is, or Karl Marx, or Mark Lewis. The answer goes much, much higher than any human being or any group of human beings. James Madison said it exactly right: “The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.” In general, we have turned our backs on the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, and no country survives when it does that.

Yes, Elon and Mr. Trump have both said and done good things for America in the last few months, and it’s sad to see the current war between them. They are two proud men, both with too much pride. And both of them are just men. “The Egyptians are men, and not God” (Isaiah 31:3).

In a recent tweet, Katie Pavlich wrote, “Things are going to get worse.” That’s all she said; she didn’t explain her meaning, and if she had been in another location, I wouldn’t have seen it. I’m not sure what Katie meant by that post, in what area(s) she thinks things are going to “get worse,” but until we turn our country, and world, around morally, “things” will indeed “get worse.” The Democratic Party shows no sign of reformation, only doubling down in their decadent, promiscuous, hate-America globalism. The Republicans are doing nothing to codify the best of Mr. Trump’s executive orders, orders which can, and will be, undone by the next Democratic Party President. Indeed, how much difference is there, really, between the two political parties? Both, in Washington, are controlled by the Deep State. It's hard to find reasons for optimism. But we can hope and fight.

We live in a sick, evil world—a world, as Mr. Madison said, with no hope but a foundation upon the “laws of God.” That doesn’t look imminent.

Power corrupts…everybody.
