The Double Down or Deport Dilemma

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

In a week that re-centered the Constitution, reinforced the law, and reignited the principle of national sovereignty, the U.S. Supreme Court handed the American people a massive win: a 5-4 ruling affirming the Trump administration’s right to deport dangerous foreign nationals using the Alien Enemies Act—a law that’s been on the books since 1798.

While the Biden era of border betrayal is finally behind us, the cleanup continues. And thankfully, that effort is now in the hands of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, the former governor of South Dakota, who’s proving every day that she has the clarity, the courage, and the competence to restore order.

Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a theoretical case about obscure immigration policy. It was about the real-world danger posed by Venezuelan gang members who entered this country with no legal claim and violent intentions. Secretary Noem’s DHS fought to remove them using every lawful tool available—and the Supreme Court agreed.

The ruling reestablishes a critical truth: we don’t need new laws to defend America—we need leaders who enforce the ones we already have.

And it couldn’t come at a more urgent time. More than 1 million illegal migrants exploited the CBP One App during the last administration, entering the country with little or no vetting. These weren’t vetted refugees or processed asylum-seekers—they were self-scheduled walk-ins, many of whom now reside anonymously in U.S. cities.

That disastrous policy flooded our nation with undocumented individuals, empowered cartel pipelines, and placed American families in direct danger. But under new leadership at DHS, the message has changed: if you entered illegally, if you pose a threat, if you ignore lawful orders to appear—your time here is up.

Secretary Noem’s strategy combines high-tech solutions, digital enforcement, and an unprecedented offer: a narrow window for self-deportation before active apprehension begins. It’s smart. It’s lawful. And it gives illegal entrants a chance to leave with dignity.

So how did the left respond? With facts? With alternative policy ideas? With data or legal precedent?

No. They responded with racism. Not accusations of racism—actual, vile racism—delivered from a sacred space.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, speaking from the pulpit of a historic Black church, tried to justify illegal immigration by saying: “We need these folks, because we done picking cotton.”

Pause and absorb that. A sitting member of Congress, in a house of worship, reduced the American workforce to a plantation metaphor—and used it to excuse the flood of illegal border crossers.

Let me be crystal clear: this wasn’t just ignorant. It was racist, classist, and morally grotesque.

It ignored the devastating impact illegal immigration has on minority communities, especially Black and Hispanic citizens, who face lower wages and higher job competition as a result. It erased the struggles of legal immigrants who followed the rules. And it insulted every American worker by implying the economy still needs unpaid labor to function.

No. This is what desperation looks like. Because the left can’t argue facts. They can’t argue legality. They certainly can’t argue morality. So they torch the conversation with identity politics and hope the fire distracts you from the truth.

But here’s the truth:

 - Over 8 million border encounters occurred during the previous administration.
 - More than 1.7 million known gotaways avoided all apprehension.
 - Cities across America are drowning in the financial and criminal consequences of uncontrolled migration.
 - And a Harvard-Harris poll shows 72 percent of Americans—including 42 percent of Democrats—support mass deportations of illegal immigrants.

The country is done with excuses. Done with lies. And done with reckless rhetoric from race-obsessed radicals.

What we need now is action. Enforcement. Protection.

And that’s exactly what we’re getting from Secretary Noem—and from the man who set this entire legal resurgence into motion: Donald J. Trump.

He doesn’t need to speak from pulpits to persuade the faithful. He doesn’t need to rewrite history or abuse race to make his case.

He just tells the truth.

He told us illegal immigration would bring chaos.

He told us the left would weaponize the courts.

He told us America would suffer if we didn’t get serious about sovereignty.

And now? Even the Supreme Court has affirmed—he was right.

So the choice is no longer theoretical.

We can double down on delusion, dysfunction, and the disgrace of elected officials using sacred churches to spout economic racism...

Or we can DEPORT our way back to national order, security, and the rule of law.

There is only one team standing between America and another generation of chaos.

Only one secretary restoring integrity to immigration enforcement.

Only one leader who doesn’t have to race-bait from pulpits because he has the Constitution—and the people—on his side.

The path forward is clear.

Double Down? Or DEPORT?

America is choosing.

And this time, the law is on our side.
